Would anybody want to buy an unbroken rising4 y/o?

Of course "somebody" would buy her. But would you want that "somebody" to have her?

What price do you have in mind, whats her breeding, where did you get her, why don't you want to keep her, all spring to mind!

difficult time to sell but spring is just round the corner (or so i keep telling myself), a big horse like that will be slow to mature so maybe you should keep her and have her broken then.

Yes but as above its probably not a very good time of year to sell, backed or otherwise. Depends what sort of money you are thinking of but obviously some people like a blank canvas.

I'm looking to buy a youngster nxt year & I far prefer unbroken, blank canvas youngsters. Don't think you'll have a problem selling.

I prefer unbacked to, re-backed.

But, I'd say would limit your price and 'audience'.

There will be someone who will want her as she is, but with this climate, may have to wait a while to find them.

Aaah so she's not 'unbacked' then.

If you'd be happyto show her doing that, or have videos of it, then I'd say you should be able to market her easily. People always want a nice hunter type 17hher :)

She will still be growing so in my opinion has done plenty work for the time being. Circumstances may dictate otherwise but unless a really good person turns up for her I'd hang on till spring. That's what I'm doing with mine but I don't have the grazing problems you sadly have.

Been advertising mine, 3 yo han x tb. He's totally unstarted though and about 15.1 at the moment, he's only actually 3 and a half now. Apart from an offer of £200 had little interest otherwise.

People like a blank canvas to shape how they want, so I think selling her unbacked is a good idea

Everyone SAYS that - but I breed and sell Irish Draughts and IDx's and virtually NEVER sell any 3 or 4 year old unbacked. People who want a 'blank canvas' tend to buy weanlings to 2 year olds.

This year's 3 year olds are being backed now and one has already gone to her new home - a couple more on the verge! But people want them properly backed and hacking out!

Do you back at this age for the market? - or would you prefer to back later in their life - i only ask as the chap at our local stud often only wants to back at 4 rising 5 or 5.

I prefer unbacked, regardless of how good a jobs been done, because they're cheaper. So from a selling pov, I'd definitely say more money selling backed. And as janetgeorge says, I think more buyers prefer buying backed. Good luck finding somewhere, hopefully you won't have to sell.

Yes :( need to move, long story!

Can she live out? or do you need a stable as well? Can I be of any help, i have room in field (with two geldings) if i can talk OH round. But No stables close at the moment. Yard is a couple of miles away, although a we are getting three small paddocks near it in the new year!
......Or i do know of a couple of yards near me!

I sold my 3 year old as a unbacked pony, so it is possible

JanetGeorge is correct in our case, I prefer to buy weanlings to bring on and start under saddle.

However, I will buy older horses depending on type and price, I don't think you'd have a problem selling, but I reckon if you can find a way to keep her, you'd be better going down that track.

Would I be able to feasibly sell my filly? She's a lovely 17hh ID/TB

Would it be better to wait until she is broken?

There are people who specifically want this... An untouched un messed up horse, that they can produce that's at the right age to produce, they don't want to keep a young horse and wait and they don't want anyone else to have attempted the backing. Why not advertise her as x amount unpacked, can back for seller for but will then cost xyz amount?

I'm in the same situation.

My Clydie x TB - 17hh filly is 4 years old and unbroken. As a foal I turned down $10,000 for her, mad that I am.

Currently she's not worth anything more than about $5,000. People don't want to pay because they have the additional expense of breaking her in.

Break her in and people don't want to pay much because she's green. So maybe I have to break her in and have her ridden and competed and sell her as a five year old.

Another time if I get offered big money for a foal I'm going to take it.
