hi guys just pondering a few things as im struggling to get to my boy twice a day, and was just windering if people would be interested in sharing my old boy (21).

just turnout bring in mucking out grooming lunging etc the reason i say no riding is because although hes 21 hes still fit and active and i still ride but he can be very funny with new people and can take a very very long time to trust someone when ridden. hes fantastic on the ground hes like a dope on a rope and once he gains someones trust hes a fab hacker totally bombproof! his last sharer couldnt even get him off the yard though and this is why im just thinking about someone to share who can give him a bit of time that i dont have. i wouldnt expect any sort of payment just knowing someone is spending more time with him than i can would be enough xx

OP - TBH I think you may have a bit of difficulty getting someone if no riding involved - In saying that though you may be able to get an enthusiastic Teenager who just wants to be around horses.

thank you for your reply i havent decided for definate to go for a sharer yet just trying to work out ways of keeping my costs down over winter. hes in at night and the girl who turns out is selling her horse so when she leaves ill be bringing in and turning out and trying to fit it in round work kids etc is hard work and costs a fortune in petrol ideally id like 24/7 t/o but none round me :( x

I'm sure there will be someone out there.

There is a young lady on here who shared a very elderly mare for a period of time untill she passed away and used to keep us updated on their inhand adventures.

ahh thats lovely so nice to give an elderly mare love in her last days. my boy is 21 but doesnt act it or look it xxx

:( aw if you where near me, i would love to share with you .. i miss horses..and it wouldn't worry me about the no riding bit!! ..i'm sure there is someone closer to you that would love to help .. good luck x

Are you expecting payment for someone to be your personal groom?!!!

You *might* get someone with time on their hands who is happy to potter around the horses for free, but will be gobsmacked if you get someone to pay you for the privilage!

op says no payment ..just someone that wants to spend time with her horse .. :D ..guess i have too much time on my hands .. :p lol

yep .. i even miss the mucking out .. not the poo picking though .. i think thats the one job around horses i hate!! lol ..sure you will find someone x

NO PAYMENT WOULD BE WANTED. hope this resolves it lol. no just want someone who would like to help out and be around my boy i should have said i wouldnt expect them to do it everyday just maybe 3 days a week just to give me a bit of help. if not ill have to move him but dont really want to as love my yard :( cant win xx

if you were round here I would do it. I used to look after my boss's old boy, he couldnt be ridden. She did pay me though as I pretty much looked after him every weekend but I loved just spending time we him he was so lovely :)

You may find someone desperate to be around horses who won't mind being a free groom. But if they are doing it for free, I'd feel cheeky asking them to commit to specific days or times. And prepared for them to move on when an opportunity to get more from someone else came along.

im sure there would be someone, I would if I was near you :) maybe advertise at your local RDA or something? thats where the enthusiastic teenagers go who arnt bothered about riding and im sure there would be someone there who would be happy to help you!

Could you hint at possible riding in the future but make it clear what the relationship would need to be like to achieve that maybe? It would give someone a nice aim to work towards

Its one thing if the horse cant be ridden full stop but may be hard for someone to stomach the hard work when you sweep in and ride at other times

Having said that I do think you'll find someone, you sound pretty reasonable about your expectations

I'm another one who would enjoy being with your boy but not riding - its a shame you're not closer. I'm not in a position at the moment to have my own, and ride at a riding school, but enjoy the "being with" as much as the riding.
Good luck with your search.

this is exactly what im thinking they could work towards riding i dont mind others riding my horse at all but when i first started loaning him before i bought him i had to wait about 4 months before riding him as his old owner wanted him to get to know me first as she didnt want him being a git lol xx

Its the sort of share that would be just up my street, I can't ride anymore because of an injury so its rare when I do but I love being around them and doing the day to day stuff. Bonus is that any extra exercise doing an outdoor gym can only be a good thing. Grooming, mucking out, field maintenance, walking is all good exercise.

Why not advertise it as a coming back to horses and a chance to get fit in the process reliable adult whose kiddies are going to school with a bit of time on their hands or a retired person just looking for some extra activities to do.

Good luck am sure someone would be interested.

Hypothetically, yes I would. I'm currently too fat to ride, and anyway I prefer just being around horses on the ground, grooming and fussing! Don't rule out there being someone similar in your area, not everyone wants to ride.

I would have loved that when I was a teen! Used to volunteer down my riding school like people do, and felt actual grooming or fun stuff was the reward for all the hard labour. Bless, the desperation of a horseless teen!

The fact that they might be able to ride in future will be good too, maybe your last sharer just wasn't confident enough or they should have spent a bit longer getting to know him in hindsight? My old share horse put me through about 2 or 3 months of 'testing' and after that we bonded and it was so worth it :-)

I don't know, but i'd love this for my old girl. Couldn't ask someone though as she's 32 with health problems so i'd be putting them in a position of getting attached then losing her. Your boy isn't old enough for this to be an issue.

I've just put an ad out for a similar things as you, so i really hope you find someone for your boy soon. The only difference for me is my mare will never be ridden again so i'm just after someone who would enjoy doing groundwork, grooming, walking out etc... Hopefully we can both find what we're looking for soon :)

I haven't ridden since my accident and due to having a 2nd accident (unhorse related) another bop on the head could see me off, so I have no intention of ever riding again but then again *grins*, I sure miss horses and being around them, if you were by me I would soo be offering to come and help .. I'm sure there will be someone out there
