Hi - I'm new to the forum and jumping in with a question! Hope a few of you will take time to reply to me with your thoughts. Sorry for it being a long post!

I have a young warmblood bred for dressage, who has damaged his hind suspensory a couple of years ago. Hardly shows any ill effects apart from maybe, sometimes, going a tiny tiny bit short when lazy. Apart from this he is a tough and healthy boy.

He is very stunning, over 17h, and while no longer recommended that he could do high level dressage he could play at prelim and maybe novice provided he is brought slowly up to full fitness and kept fit. He could happily be someone's very posh hack or even riding club horse. Obviously he wouldn't pass the vet.

However, I never hacked him as there is no hacking where we are and he is quite a spooky horse, not least because he has never really been anywhere or done anything.

Just wondering what on earth to do with him? It seems such a waste for him to spend the next 10 or 15 years as a field ornament. On the other hand, I have his best interests at heart throughout all this.

Does anyone think there may be someone out there who could be interested in him as a companion and bring him back into work: he could well turn out to be a super non competition riding horse, but would need a confident rider who could give him a lot of encouragement to be a brave boy! Obviously I only want a loving home for him.

I've thought about the bloodbank for him, but he loves people and a one on one relationship so much I think he would miss it too much.

I'd be so grateful of any advice here!

Hi and welcome to the forum.
I'm shore someone out there would give him a nice home. Just be honest about his problems and make shore he is realisticly priced.
Good luck with finding him a new home.:)

Hi' and welcome to the forum.:)
Can you box him and ride some where, with another horse for reasurence? or you can put him out on loan, as a hack, i think there are plenty of people who would like to have him, he sounds lovely. He just needs work to get him used to the sights and sounds outside the yard, then i think he would make a super horse.

Where are you?

I'm going to be looking for a companion for my yearling soon as my vet has just advised my old boy should not face another winter.

Have lots of riding experiance and would love something to ride and bring on. Fab hacking near me as well. PM me if you want.

Ooh, thank you all so far for the encouragement! When I started this thread I wasn't looking for anyone to offer to take him on, but just to see if it could be possible or if people would look at me in horror!

I don't think I would sell him though - unless I could be sure it was a super home and the owners would come back to me if a problem so we could sort it out and make decisions together. Loan, probably, but with regular updates and photos as have loaned horses out before with more and occasionally less success.

HappyHorses - have pm'd you.
