Would anyone be worried about this? WWYD?

Had quite a seriously hard days hunting on Saturday. Not excessively hard jumping but lots of terrible ground and mileage.

Anyway, he pulled off the same shoe for the second week in a row, was very sore but luckily we ended up about 100 meters away from his stable.

His leg on the same leg he lost the shoe came up on sat night. Heat on the inside of his cannon bone, same area where he did a mild check ligament injury 3 years ago:-/ so I was in total panic mode! Cold hosed and bandaged. Was up but not bad in the morning. He wanted to go out so put him out ( he never even trots in the field!), came back in and it was totally down and no more heat than the other leg. He's since had shoe back on, I did a little hack on the road tonight and he's sound and cheerful. Leg cool and no swelling.

I'm still a bit worried he might have slightly pulled something? He's not hunting this week anyway but we had planned to go next Saturday. WWYD in terms I hunting next week and exercise is the mean time?

I would do walking exercise for a few days and watch carefully .
Is there any reaction to palpation over the check area when the leg is lifted ?

No, nothing now. No difference at all to his other leg. The heat and swelling wasn't localised just down the inside of his cannon bone and some heat in fetlock. Think there was a bit of paranoia involved making me think it was the same thing.. Could be a number of things I guess but I was thinking gentle exercise on a firm surface and see how he gets on?

If there was a previous injury in roughly the same place I think I would call a vet and not take any chances. It may seem overkill but I would be cautious in this situation I think

I'm sorry to disappoint but I'm massively losing confidence in vets by the minute! The last diagnosis was inconclusive on the scan to say the least (as in they couldn't really find anything) but I took their word for it..

I'm not keen to give my horse another 6 months off because 'it sounds from what you said that it might be check ligament damage' :-/

I'm not disappointed - like it matters to me...

Its your horse it just sounds like home remedies might not cut it thats all

What are the home remedies exactly? I have a sound horse. Most people wouldn't even notice if it's leg was up for a few hours!

I'm think it's either:
A) a knock, his sore foot, superficial injury so good to carry on as usual
B) slight pull of injury he may or may not have ever had, proceed with caution

I'm pretty sure even if he has done something it wouldn't show on a scan.

He's hunted 2 seasons since with no problems. But this was a particularly hard day for him:-(

If it where me I would have my vet out to palpate it if there was no pain I would proceed with caution .
We will gloss over where a Favorite hunter who had broken down in the past had a big leg the next morning I called the vet ( BF ) in tears who arrived and passed the earth shattering diagnoses she's got mud fever.

Haha, must have been quite a nice relief though!

I just don't trust vets. I have an old friend (who is a vet now) Who I trust, I'll ask her.

I am in exactly the same boat. Lost front show after 3 hours in heavy going on OM. Slight swelling in fetlock the following morning and this went up the leg. Turned him out on Sunday and when he came in most had gone. He was sound. Shoe went back on on the Monday. Applied DMSO Sunday/Mon/Tues. All was OK.

This Sat lost same shoe. Same symptons but was lame. Shoe on on Monday. Turned out in field lots better but will not hunt him Saturday will take one of our others and will hack him out on Sunday and see how he is.

I am sure he has wrenched it badly so will give him some time, bute and reassess. Am lucky that we have a spare between us.

Time and rest are the best cure for most things. I do not rush to get a vet out unless it is serious.

I would hack him out, see hows he feels and take it from there. Thats what am going to do.
