Would anyone buy a pony like this?

My friend has a 12hh quirky mare for her daughter which she is looking to move on. The pony hates flatwork and her main interest apart from eating is hunting and hacking, she is brilliant on the road and unfazed by things such as a herd of deer running out in front of her. Just wondered if there would be a market for such a pony before she goes to ashford market. Thanks
 
I would think so,but in what way is the mare quirky? If you are talking a novice ride to hunt or hack but will bronc if she is schooled,then i would think providing you are totally upfront and honest about this then you should only get the right type of people come to see her.If however you are talking a 12h pony who loves to bite and kick kids,refuses to be caught and needs an adult to handle her then chances are somewhat slimmer as although there are adults who will use a 12 h pony they are far fewer.
 
Depends on the Quirk !! - if it's a good hunting pony - contact the local hunt and Pony Club they will know of families looking for good ponies ! and very often they stay in the same family for years !
 
If it is a safe hunter then yes. Safe hunting ponys are always in demand.

Definitely! My first pony was like this. She hated schooling or flatwork - totally unco-operative & unwilling. However, get her into a paddock with a round of jumps & she was pure genius. Placed herself perfectly for every jump, got herself out of any trouble I put her in, and although we could only only hack to a local show once a year, always performed & got us placed. She was also brilliant to hack. She was with me for 13 years until she was 26 & sadly had to be PTS. Pony in a million & I still miss her

It could possibly just be a bit school sour, so a life away from it for a while might do it good and then be re-introduced back to schooling in a positive way. So yes I'd say there would be a market for such a pony, especially as it's something that sounds like it could be over come with time and patience.
 
Loads of people would be interested in a pony that is good to hack and hunt! Small hunting ponies are worth their weight in gold. Get in touch with your local hunts and I am sure someone will snap her up immediately.
 
Definitely contact your nearest hunt - they are bound to know someone looking for a pony like this. Apart from anything else, if it's hunted locally they may know it and recommend it if it's good at it's job.

It's worth it's weight in gold if it has no temperament/health issues other than not liking schooling - why is your friend sending it to market?
 
Tell her she'd get more money if she advertised it. I think she'd easily cover the cost of the ad & probably what she paid for the pony & possibly still make a profit.
