On a converted R reg Renault Master horsebox? Since the 76 viewers in New Lounge don't like me :( ;)

3.5 tonnes, white, 2.8 diesel, 1140 pay load, side load/rear facing, 129,900 miles, slight scuffs on the exterior but nothing worrying, just cosmetic.

Don't want to give any details of who owns it, buying or selling because of Ts & Cs.

The good
Horse space is fair, can take two 15hh Quarter horses easily, high headroom.
Partition can be pole or solid or taken out completely, length of standing area can be shortened/lengthened.
Original floor is still underneath covered by an aluminium floor covered by rubber matting.
Decent room in the back for tack etc.
Starts well, good strong clutch.
12 months MOT and 6 months tax.
Access from the horse area to the rear storage area as there is a door in to it so horses could be taken out through the rear if needed. Step down from back of van but no higher than on some continental trailers.
Kickback area behind the horses to stop hooves appearing whilst driving!

The bad
Lights don't work in the horse bit. It could just be a bit of wiring or a bulb has gone, could be worse, not sure.
Driver/passenger doors don't lock, back does. Could be sorted with a new lock system but costs.
Torn material on driver's seat, cosmetic but long.
Ramp is fine to put down and not too steep, but very heavy to lift up e.g. a not so strong person would find it difficult to lift but not impossible. Slightly sticky to shut but would probably be ok with use/WD40!
Horse have to take a step back to unload but fine for a well behaved horse.

Does anyone have an opinion on these vans in general? I know some people like them and some don, so feel free to raise points. Any questions, I'll try to answer. Thanks :)

Very difficult really - I don't think very much is selling at all at the moment.

A friend of mine has a similar one but in better condition that she has been trying to sell for ages. She's had it up for £6k and reduced it to £5k. Still not even getting any calls, let alone a potential buyer.

I think one of the problems with the 3.5t lorries is the weight - I think if you could get it to a weighbridge so you know the unladen weight and can advertise a good payload, this would be a good selling point.

Funny you should ask this! I've been hunting for a Renault Master box for a few weeks now. Drove 10,000,000 miles today (well, felt like it with the M4 Brynglas Tunnels trashed) to look at one. Well worth the drive. Good nick, immaculate condition, 51 plate but new 03 engine put in after cam belt went on the last one. £7k to include putting it through MOT. Took knowledgeable friend with me to poke, prod, lift, nose, question, challenge, be suspicious etc etc etc and he couldn't find a thing wrong with it except he recommended steam spray and underseal to prolong its life. All the ones I've seen up til that point were older or higher mileage or newer and too expensive. Any help?

Ah, the tunnels, what hell they've been! Another car burst in to flames in there earlier on in the year, I wonder if there's something happening in there.

It is a help, thanks, gives something to gauge an older box against. Hmmmm, food for thought, thanks :)
