Would be really grateful for some advice

I have a very sweet yearling gelding, about 13.2hh atm. He is currently out at grass with some people sharing with an old TB broodmare. Sadly because of ground conditions they cannot have during the winter and I am starting to really worry about what to do with him. My other 2 horses are on DIY at a lovely yard but turnout is not great in the winter and he would have to be in at night and on his own during the day which is not ideal. I don't know whether to advertise for anyone who has a youngster and turnout who needs a companion or if he would be ok going out everyday on his own and coming in at night? Also I'm such a worry guts about my horses, I'm nervous about him going to anyone I don't know! Any advice very gratefully received!
 
I have a youngster (4) who will not stay out by himself at all, he will jump or crash through anything to get near other horses so please be careful I have just spent a fortune on vets fees because of this. (previous owner said he was ok on his own!)
 
I would ask around for anyone with some other youngsters to hang out with over winter - they learn a hell of a lot and it means he has some buddys to tear about with in the snow! :D
My youngster did this = i didnt see him for 3 months - he came back a big grown up boy!
 
That is what worries me, he is very sensible but we have a xc course open to people all year round and lots of stuff going on and I'm really worried that he will just gallop up and down all day and end up having an accident.

I think you are right there, they do learn so much from living in a herd and I would love that for him it's just finding someone who wants another one!
 
I would definitly look for a private field somewhere that has 'good doers' in it and ask if they have room for your little guy. I'm lucky that the girls just stick him in the next field now if he's left alone because he wont even stay on his side of the fence if all the others leave. I don't know how to upload but the pics of his wounds, but they would put you off leaving him on his own! Good luck x
 
He had lived a sheltered live same private yard his entire life with the same 6 horses then all of a sudden he gets dropped of in a 30 horse livery yard to me. I put him out with 'safe' horses who kicked the $h** out of him and he just didnt know what he had done. He found it really hard to settle and none of the other horses would leave him alone for some strange reason, finally almost 2 months on he now has friends and is healing pretty well so fingers x'd :)
 
Your poor boy, horses are just like children, always pick on the vunerable! I'm really lucky at my yard cos we get individual turnout and my old boy is the best nanny in the world. If he wasn't in and hunting this winter he would be brill to turnout with the yearling but I think he would be quite offended if I turned him out all day everyday in mid winter!!!! Glad to hear he is healing, always a slow process sadly.

I would do this, babies need friends to play with :)
