Hey

Just wondering as me and mum would like to clip "The Beast" in time for the Regionals as he is a bit hairy and "beasty" looking at the moment

But are worrying that it is too late to clip and his summer coat wouldn't come through properly

I clipped my horse on Sunday because she was very whiskery.

Our usual rule with our hunters was twice maybe three times before Christmas and once after. Am sure you'll be fine.

I fully clipped Morris again yesterday as he was looking a bit like a teddy bear. His winter coat hasn't started to moult yet, so I think he'll be fine.

I'm going to clip in the next couple of weeks for the first time! If you think about it, even once the summer coat is through they are still changing it all the time, so I don't think it should be a problem.

He'll be fine Jess, just do it sooner rather than too close to the Regionals.

Imo it's an old wives' tale that you shouldn't clip after the first week of Jan. As the others have said, loads of people clip through the year and the horses look great. Most show cobs are kept clipped through the show season.

We have this question several times through the winter on here. Honestly you can clip whenever. It's an old wives tale that it ruins the summer coat. Hair continues to grow constantly. If you clip it off it will grow back either as winter hair or summer hair if they have already started to shed.

I usually clip up to April (including in the past top level show horses) and their coats are always fantastic.

Always leave my last clip until end Feb and always have fab summer coats regardless of whether they have started to moult or not, 1st shows in Apr/May can be a bit hit & miss depending on the Judges but clipping any earlier just leaves me a load of moulting clipped whiskery hair to remove......
