I put a meduim weight turnout with convo no filling neck ( Link For The Rug. )
I'm just totaly pissed off with sending my lovely, clean, dry, soft, lad out with a smelly boggy rug thats not 100% recovered from the days before minging weather.
Plus its just a light weight std so by the time its p!ssed it down with rain and hes rolled for england hes one minging horsey, and i can't not bath him at night before putting him to bed.
But hes not clipped and quite hiary

It is a tough call. I would say not to put a rug on unless it had no filling. I refuse to place any rugs on mine until they are clipped out

I am just about to buy two of these rugs and put mine in them, but they are clipped out. I think they would be a bit too warm if they still had their coats on.
Nice rugs though! Very reasonably priced, I have found mine for £69 with £5.95 P&P for both.

I refuse to put thick rugs on too until they are clipped out otherwise they are not going to feel the benefit when it does turn col and they are clipped.

Mine has just got a rainmack on with neck cover at the mo.

Same here... my boy's a TB i am determined not to upped his rugs until he's clipped... He got LW TO and Sheet for bed.

By the way can't you put your rug in washing machine so it's clean and easier to dry instead of sending them away? I can Fit 6'9 rug in mine... dries by the morning in the bathroom with heating on.

Last winter I used a rug with no filling on my unclipped baby - just to keep him dry. He was plenty warm enough, out by day and in by night.

I would not use a rug with a filling on a hairy unclipped horse. I don't use neck covers - my long manes are not to be risked.

I have a MW turnout for mine when they have a blanket clip and they are normally nice and warm, I do have a HW rug but only if it is freezing.

Mine are a cob and a clydie and thick skinned with thick coats where they are not clipped.

Personally I would rather they were on the cool side than risk them coming in sweated up under a rug.

Im finding my new combo with 'satiny' lining is keeping my neds mane much better than his traditional neckline rugs, which have been rubbing the bottom of his mane a bit

My boy has a lw/mw on outside - only to keep his shoulder warm as it's pretty wet and miserable here at the mo........wouldn't normally on any other horse.

Not necessary if you only do it at low temps (30) and use non biological wash liq/powder. I have washed my Rambo light weight for three years... no problem... if worried use Nixwax reproofer (very good) in wash mach aswell...
