Now I know a lot of you would probably think that i was silly looking for another horse, but have been talking to parents about it, and we are thinking about loaning one with view to buy at a later date, if everything goes right and she fits in with us...etc!

She's 15hh, (do you think this would be to small for me, will put pic of me riding H - 15.3hh!), 5yrs old grey with spots, unspoilt (basically been backed and 'ridden' a few times, but not done much), same home since birth (I think!), good with everything, not phased by new experiences.

Haven't seen photos yet so I'm not sure about going to see her until i have seen photos, because she may be too 'heavy' for what i'm looking for

She might be completly wrong, but then again she might be right!

So am i being silly, or is it worth a look?? Or should i just forget about getting another horse as i would be making a mistake!?

thanks

Why do you want another? Will you have time for another, all thinks to consider
I think 15hh may not have any probs carrying you but might be on the small side.
Are you experienced enough to take on a baby?

Why do I want another....because it feels like i've got my head sorted and i'm in the right place to have another. Silly answer? Maybe, but i feel that if i leave it too long to get another horse i will not have long enough with it before i go to Uni (another 3 years though!) We have talked about it, and it just seems to be the right time!

Yes i will have time for another, I'm just about to start summer holidays and have 10 weeks off, to get her started really well, and not rush it! when i go back in september, we will have a car that can pull the trailer and mum has said that when it starts getting too dark to ride in the evenings, we will pop Hemir (and if we have a new one) in the trailer to the school that is about 10 mins away, a few times a week, so that i can ride as much as possible! Dad has also promised to put floodloghts out onto the field so it doesn't matter what time i ride, I could get up early and do one of them before school and one after school, and still have time to sleep and do work! (we have thought about this, and were not rushing into it - although OP might sound like it! We were originally planning on buing a 2/3yr old, but i have had a re-think and decided that maybe take it one step at a time!!

That was my worry, but i was comfortable riding a 15.1hh and didn't feel too big for her, and although I knew i was too big i used to ride my old pony up until last year and she was only 12.1hh!! So don't really have any problems with that, I don't think for a first baby that i want anything too big either!!

Are you experienced enough to take on a baby? - yes and no, I was always riding youngsters for my riding school, and have backed a couple. I have a lot of support now, but everyone has to start somewhere, have never had a baby before, but do have the experience of being around them, so know what to expect...well so to speak as you never know completly what to expect!! lol!

thanks for replying

No I don't necessarily think you're too big for a 15.1. If she's nto done anything she will muscle out a lot over time which may mean she even grows a little. I bought mine as a freshly backed 4yr old, he was 16.1, he now measures at 16.3!
A word of warning though. Having struggled through A levels with two horses I would say it is hard work. Not impossible by any means but do you really want to make such a big commitment? A baby takes a lot of time and schooling and can be very frustrating. I've just finished university and to say I struggled to keep my one competition horse fit doesn't come close. I'm nto saying don't go for it, just take some time to think about what a huge commitment this is.
