I've found a pony in the local paper that needs a lightweight rider. Am really interested in it and thinking about ringing the owner, but not sure whether I'd be too big? I'm 5ft3 and just over 8.5 stone. I ride anything between 13hh and 18hh at the riding school, so I think I would be ok, but just need a bit of reassurance really!!

I would regard you as lightweight, regardless of size of pony. That bit is up to the owner to worry about. But if I was advertising for a lightweight adult rider you would definitely fit the bill!

There is a rule to find out the weight a horse can carry by using the width of bone but not sure of it.

I schooled a sec A and i'm 10st (eeekkkk!!!) but you got to remember sec A's are built to carry 13 st farmers

They carry about 20% of their body weight (much more accurate than bone or height) but at 8.5st you could ride pretty much anything! (and going by the 20% rule you could ride anything weighting more than 300kg (if you include tack in your weight) So still pretty much anything!)
