ok so my loan pony is going home and we are on the look out for an alternative that can keep my mare company and either myself or my brother can hack out on it with my other mare.
Ok so i have a soft spot for appys and would love another one a 12.2 welsh x appy has come upfor sale in my price range and i was thinking that it might be worth a look as i have ridden many horses smaller than this for friends ect. however after looking at the post below about height i am know worrid. Honest opinions please: i am 5ft4in not with lankey legs at all (more like little stubby ones lol between 8 and 9 stone and i dont sit like a sack of spuds my brother is proberbly about erm 5ft 1-2 and weighs bout 8 stone. At the moment my mare is 14hh and a welsh x appy as well (she carries my mum who is same height but heavier) but before i got her i was riding anything between 10 and 13hh for 5 years xxx

tbh i would say that you are too big unless this pony is of a native type but being and appy i doubt it! There are plenty bigger onesa round have more of a look!

Yep I would say you would be too big for it, but thats just IMO, I would say min 14.hh

Hope I haven't offended you

I think you may look a little too big on it but welsh ponies are great weight carriers. I rode a 13.2 hh native for years until i was 18 (He was very naughty with children) and i'm 5ft 8in and around 9 stone. In the trekking place i used to work alot of us girls (Most over 18) used to ride the ponies because the children couldnt handle them. As its only for hacking i dont think this would be a problem. I think someone has said in a past post that the general rule is a stone per hand so you should be fine. Hope this helps.

It would be fine for now if you are just going to hack out occasionally but how long is it going to last you both?
