OK, this is not an ad, just wondering whether it is worth paying for one, and if so where would be best. And actually whether it would be sensible to do it at all. I have been totally honest below, what do you think. She is my daughters and I am not allowed to sell her, however I am fed up of seeing her doing nothing.

16.2hh ish Skewbald Warmblood Mare. Not done much up to now, only hacking and schooling. Has done some showing including a big county where she behaved reasonably in a ridden class or two. Did behave very badly in an in hand class at local level but we had never practiced it.

Well behaved if ridden regularly but if you leave her for a few weeks she will hump/half rear generally mess about until she settles. Needs a sympathic rider when she does this, bullying her will make it worse. She was broken as a four year old and managed to drop my daughter a couple of times when she first came home. Since then I dont think anyone has come off until earlier this year when she managed to fall over with her rider.

Is handled on the ground by us and an 80+ year old relative who sings to her :D :D. Good for the farrier if he also sings to her, otherwise can be a bit awkward. Hates the vet but we have strategies for dealing with it. Good for the dentist. Good to clip except her head when you have to spend a bit of time and patience. Excellent to load and travel.

Had an operation on her stifle as a three year old, it has never caused any problems since but I probably dont want her doing any serious jumping just in case.

My daughter doesn't like hacking, but other people have taken her and she has been fine with traffic, other horses or alone. The guy who broke her was using her to escort nervous horses on hacks two weeks after she was backed.

Obviously needs someone experienced. I would like her to stay on our yard and would be happy to provide transport / groom etc for competitions.

Do you think anyone would be interested

Really she sounds like my gelding, a normal horse with quirks, these tend to be talented but need treating well, and usually plenty if exercise!

How old is she?

I think you could find someone for her but they would need experience and be sympathetic to her needs.

Being like my gelding id have her!
He us currently injured :-(

Not sure if I could take another currently though.

Thank you, she 8. Shame she is a bit too far away from you. By the way this isn't about finance or even yard work she is on the same yard as my other two. She's just wasted and bored and it seems a shame.

Yes, she sound like she just needs some work.

Good luck in finding someone.
I'm sure there are people out there that will jump at the chance

Thanks, its strange these day, when I was younger it would have been easy. These days there seem to be a lot of horses doing nothing and no people wanting to ride.

I would have ridden her myself a few years ago but I just about need a ladder to get on and old age is taking its toll on my joints. I hate to say but I also prefer my cobs I gave up on the thoroughbred/warmbloods 30 years ago.

I dont have any recent pics but these are from a couple of years ago, her first indoor show. She has done very little since but she has matured and filled out, not such a lanky beast now.

She's beautiful! If she jumped a little (maybe up to 3foot) she would be the type of horse I'd be looking to share. I like dressage and jumping. She is GORGEOUS though. And I like a horse with a little 'attitude'

She looks gourgeous and sounds great.

I think someone would love to share ..... but as always its finding the right person and being prepared to be Very patient until the right person comes along. In my experience, its like finding your prince - you have to meet an awful lot of frogs on the way.

Maybe ask someone to have a lesson with an instructor before finalising any arrangements, so you can have another view whether this person is right for the horse, and give yourself a get out clause if you don't feel they are right.

Where to advertise - I would try the Pony Club (it sounds as if a bit of out and about with the Pony Club would be great for her), the farrier, tack shops, feed merchant, local instructors, riding club ...... anyone who can help by word of mouth. Its a numbers game, the more local people who know about it the more likely you are to find a good match.

Good luck!

There is no reason why she cant jump, we just never bothered, but I wouldn't want he doing too much. I dont really want someone who is wanting to do BSJA or Eventing if you know what I mean. She could do the dressage, she has a fantastic trot when she wants to. I have seen her going up the field doing one of those movements from the higher level dressage, the really extravagent trot, no idea what its called :D :D. She certainly has attitude :D

Thank you, a lesson with an instructor sounds a great idea. To be honest my big worry would be doing this, getting it wrong and someone being hurt. Strangely enough the horse doesn't worry me that much, she can look after herself and will do. She is a sweetheart when treated right but there isn't any room for error. God that makes me sound like a very uncaring owner, I'm not really.

The Pony Club would be great, it sorted our little cob out. Would just worry about letting someone elses child out on something I know is not 110%. I will try the feed merchants, farrier, instructors etc. Do you think that is enough, I did wonder if the sort of people who might be interested will not currently have a horse and therefore might not go to these sort of places.

Its good to know that no-one thinks I would be irresponsible trying to find someone for her.

I know preloved tends to attract some "interesting" characters but thats where I found my first loan horse (before I bought my lovely boy).

Theres horsemart and equine adverts but I dont know what they are like.

What about an ad in the local saddlery or riding school

Thanks for that.

Your not kidding about the interesting characters on pre-loved :D :D :D

I will try the local saddlery, not sure about riding school though, I dont think she is at all suitable to be someones first horse.

Are any of the websites good for loans / shares do you think. I would look on Horsemart and H&H to buy, not sure I would to loan / share

Thanks I have had a look at the share/loan site. Seems like a great idea, didn't seem to be a lot on there though.

I want somewhere with a lot of genuine traffic but non of the pre-loved numpties. Perhaps thats asking a lot :D :D I would soon loose my patience with a load of idiots ringing me up. I can almost hear the conversations now, "I'm very experienced, I can walk and trot and have been going to riding school for a year".

Sorry I'm being bitchy, I hate advertising horses and am starting to stress already :D :D :D

If you have a good RC it may be worth trying, there are often people whose own horse is off for some reason, they may be interested in a loan, even if only short term it could get some miles on the clock.

Is there someone near you who maybe sells a few horses, compete and do a few lessons, etc. There are 2 or 3 very nice ladies around here who do that sort of thing. (I note that you would like someone local).

If so, why don't you ask them for advice on finding a sharer - they normally have contacts anyway and also if you come to some sort of financial arrangment with them they will also screen anyone interested so you don't get too many numpties coming your way.

More importantly, while it may cost you a little bit you are more likely to get the right person and they can do all the phone stuff if you put an advert in - they are probably also more experienced at screening people over the phone.

Good luck.

Thank you, thats a great idea, there are a few who come to our yard to do lessons. I will make sure I am around during the week and speak to them.

Or perhaps not the one where she had a hissy fit in the in hand class :D :D :D

One last question. Should I put all this stuff in my ads. I could just ask for experienced riders and explain everything later. However I would really rather be upfront right from the start. Would save any comebacks later if anything went wrong. They couldn't say they didn't know.

And finally, I hope, what about insurance. Can I insist they get their own for any injuries. I assume I tell my insurance as well (assuming its a share)

As you can tell I am rather worried about this. I got a rider for our bombproof cob a couple of years ago and it didn't work out. She is only bombproof with a confident rider, they dont have to be good, just confident. I couldn't believe it when she set her neck and trotted home totally ignoring the rider. This is a pony I can take round the fields in just a headcollar and bareback.

I would just put experienced rider for horse that needs further education, or something similar, then vet them when they contact you, you usually get a sense of how competent people are[or not] when they first phone.

They should be able to take out a riders insurance to cover them, it is not overly expensive.

OK thank you.

I now have a plan, I feel better about this than I have for some time.

Thanks HHO :D :D

What you said in your first post is, I think, ideal. She sounds lovely, a lively ride with a bit of attitude and a lot to give. Similar to the one I have currently scoffing hay in my stable and if I were looking, I'd definitely be calling you up.

I guess i'm one of those numpties then! ;)
I currently have an ad on preloved for a loan as i have found it to be the only website so far with the traffic and that searches very locally for you.

Good luck with the look, the right one will come along at the right time or so i've been told!

LOL, obviously a better class of pre-loved users in your area. Have a look at the thread from a couple of days ago :D :D :D
