...who has hardly competed before? My mare is a 14hh Arab x Welsh and would have prob made a nice show hunter pony in her day, but we never really competed much so she's very low milage and only ails a bit of stiffness in her near hind fetlock from a windfall, which wears off with exercise.

Now I've got back in to things after having three children, we've been showing a sec A in LR classes and I've got the showing bug...thing is, I'd really like a turn...

Is it a really ridiculous idea? Is it worth putting the work in at this age? Somebody kick me up the bum in either direction please! I would also like to have a go at some Intro dressage tests with her...

I don't see why not a livery next door has a 32 year old pony that does ridden showing, jumping and dressage his a 14h irish type pony and he does really well.

Not at all. I took a 22 year old out to some veteran showing last year, she hadn't done any serious showing before but we won a first round Olympia qualifier first time out. We only did one second round as we weren't really serious enough to travel all over but we came second in our class so we didn't qualify but had a great time.

One year a few of us on the yard I was at all went off to a local show. One of these was a 25yo cob, who only came along to fill a space in one of the lorries. He was usually placid as you like, and his owner thought it would be nice for him to have a day out pootling around the veterans class.

Long story short, he got thoroughly over-excited about the whole thing and was very lucky not to get sent out of the ring for bad behaviour at the start!! He did settle down though and came second, bless him. He had a wonderful time, not sure the owner enjoyed it quite so much.....

My old mare behaved like a 2yo on its first time on a racecourse in the midst of a hurricane the first time I took her veteran showing :D She got the hang of it after a couple of times and learnt to behave with manners more suited to a 20yo+ horse :)

The oldest age group in veteran showing is for 25+ so if you took that route yours would be up against others of her own age anyway :)
