to take my 17yo mare who has only ever been a happy hacker and has had all year off due to laminitis to a Trec practice session in November with a view to actually giving it a go in January? I'd be going completely on my own and she's never competed in anything except in hand stuff!! I'd love to do it, and know she'd be good at it but people I've mentioned it to seem to think she should be retired now and it's unfair? I would take Jasper but I'm trying to get him going at dressage and he's a spooky boy anyway! I don't really know anyone in my area and thought it might help me to know horsey people here as well! What do you all think?

Mine is 21 and no-where near retiring. 17 definitely aint old!

If you think she'd enjoy it and be good at it then go for it

Go for it

17 is no age...as long as she is completely over her laminitis and she is fit and up for the job required then I see no reason not to.
Go have fun

As long as you get him fit enough, absolutely no reason why not. Go and enjoy yourself

Over To You was doing 4* three day events at over 17 as long as she's fit and healthy there is no reason she should be retired.

Appropriate work is generally good for older horses.

my boy is 18 yrs old. He hasn't changed in the 8 yrs I've owned him.

Bring her back into work slowly and she will be fine. Le Trec from what I understand is done at your own pace.

ENJOY

Jane
