Would just feeding speedibeet and pink powder be sufficient?

He currently has 2 feeds a day with speedibeet, pink powder and bailey's no.4, plus hay in the field. He being 5yo welsh cob rugged and living out with a chaser clip. I ride him probably on average about 5 days a week for about 30-40 mins a time. So would he be ok if i cut out the baileys? Or keep the baileys and cut out the pink powder perhaps?

I don't want to feed him anything that can't be soaked easily as he has a tendancy to choke hence why i would rather keep him on the speedibeet.

It's now January and to be honest he does not look like he's lost any weight so far this winter. I can feel his ribs if i prod him but i certainly cannot see them!

probably, try it and see.

Mine is currently on speedibeet with pro-hoof suppliment, salt and linseed to help keep her weight on as she is a poor doer.

If you find he doesn't keep weight on or is lacking something on just speedibeet and pink powder you can always add something back in or look at switching your suppliment for something else.

Absolutely. This is exactly what my neighbour feeds her 25yr old child's pony along with haylage and all day turnout. He holds his weight and is a gem to ride and handle.

If your pony is overweight and not losing any, you need to feed less in general - perhaps just one feed. Our mare needs to have chaff added to a soaked feed to avoid the risk of choke.
I wouldn't feed PP to anything, we had a nasty experience with it and our 2 ridden horses, last Christmas. Their behaviour was dreadful and the one with no back shoes was hopping on a gravel track. When we thought about it properly, the behaviour had been deteriorating for months.

Try it and see how you go - speedi beet plus something like Bailey's Lo cal works well ime, as previous poster said chaff good to prevent choke. I have noticed this year that few horses have dropped off at all on my yard - testament to the wet mild winter I guess.

My good doers are only getting chaff, half (soaked) scoop of sugarbeet and yeast at the moment. They also haven't dropped any weight and have been on restricted grazing all December.

I would either just feed the Bailey's with a handful of chaff, or just the sugarbeet and PP, one feed only.

Is there any specific reason that he needs to be fed pink powder/a probiotic? I think that I would keep the Baileys and swap the pink powder for a general vitamin supplement, if that is still necessary when feeding a balancer.

My good doer native type is on speedibeet, hi-fi and brewers yeast and good meadow hay.

This is a good diet for natives who manage their weight very well imo. Hard feed will either turn them silly or pile on the calories!. Natives can hunt and PC/RC etc very well off this simple diet.

If weight gain is needed, add more hay.

What is wrong with just good quality hay? If he is a cob and a good doer he will get all he needs from that, save your money unless he needs a supplement of some kind.
