I have possibly found what seems to be my dream horse.....

but they are a dealer and i dont know any dealers to be honest, so I would really like some info if anyone can please help me with... I know im not allowed to mention names on here but I can happily pm the name.

Saying the area the horse is in would help people know if they can help. also pop their name into google or the search bit on here and see what comes up, it can be quite enlightening. Good luck with it :)

I know of "dealers" in Wales who are more concerned about the homes to where their horses go.
They have youngsters ready to go on for eventing and suchlike ,and do not fit the conventional "horse dealers" image.
(sorry, cross posted, I see the area is now mentioned)

Teg :)

You cant realy trust anyone selling horses, ask if you can have it on 2 week trial then that means they have nothing to hide if not turn up at the yard unexpectantly to make sure the horse doesnt do anything you didnt see. Some horses are drugged when you try them so watch out, but even private sellers could do this :)

Forgive me if i'm wrong but surely a dealer is someone who trades publicly so there shouldn't be a problem mentioning their name???

I know there was something on here awhile back where we shouldnt mention names...
someone please correct me if im wrong, I am in no way saying a bad word for the person as I do not know them.

No chance would I let a horse I was selling go on a 2 week trial....far too risky for me and the horse!

my last horse I bought I actually had on loan for several months and bought cheaply who was my horse of a lifetime!

I am going to call them first thing in the morning, would like to perhaps go and view it and do my upmost not to get over excited cos the horse is seemingly just 'right' picture wise anyway.
Pics hide allsorts I know, I shall also be taking someone else with me to stop me buying with heart not head as this next horse will (hopefully) be my horse for life.

I also would NEVER let a horse go on a two week (or even two day!) trial, but that doesn't mean I don't want my horses in a perfect home, and it does not make me a bad seller. Don't let that put you off.

Very sad you feel that way. I personally feel I am trustworthy and would never lie about the horses I have for sale as it could lead to them ending up in the wrong home. I am not a dealer, but a breeder who is downsizing and I am not naive enough to think no one lies when selling a horse, but to say you can't trust anyone is a little offensive. I would also never allow any of mine to go on a two week trial. Why should I let someone take them, possibly ruin them and then want to return them with no risk to them at all??

I wouldn't ask for a horse to be on a 2 week trial either if Im honest, if I liked the horse and it passed vetting then its a case of get on with it, but having said that I haven't bought a horse in a very long time, and bought from being on loan so knew everything about the horse incl quirks.

I am all up for the challenge ahead of bringing up a youngster hoping it will being many rewards, should I feel out of depth then I will ask for help always.

I actually cannot wait to find one.

Also need to find some grazing as I would like to try and keep this next one as natural as possible esp after my old boy who was a complete wuss loved his stable lol.

If anyone knows of any places near Colchester please PM me.

+1.

What I would offer however is a decent trial at my own yard where the horse could be monitored as I also don't think buying a horse you've sat on once infront of a crowd is always the best gauge of how suited you are

I have horses needing to be sold to downsize too (difficult circumstances led to several horses being inherited). I still wouldn't trust anyone if buying and would certainly not let a horse go without a background check on the new seller and wouldn't expect anyone to trust me.

I also wouldn't allow mine to go on trial, but would allow a potential buyer to trial at the yard if requested. If I was in any doubt of the way they were acting I'd politely tell them that I didn't think they were suitable for that horse.
