Would Paypal put you off buying??

It would put me off totally.

I got massively screwed over by paypal once and closed my account, so I wouldnt go there.
I wanted something quite recently from a website that seemingly used only PP and I emailed them to see what other forms of payment they would accept, as I wanted the item but not badly enough to use PP.

It woud put me off totally too and in fact I have not completed shopping on a couple of sites purely because when I got the checkout page, they only took Paypal. I opened a Paypal account once and within minutes my email inbox was flooded with 64 junk emails. I became very worried about the security of Paypal and instantly closed the account again. Paypal contacted me and asked why i had opened and closed an account within half an hour - so I told them.

Nope, I have a debit card or am happy to send a postal order. If that's not good enough, then I won't be shopping with you!

No Paypal wouldn't put me off at all. I've actually bought two horses from out of the country using Paypal because the exchange rate and ease of payment worked for both me and the sellers and made for smooth transactions.

No, I prefer using PayPal when I'm purchasing and would select a site offering PayPal as a means of payment, over an equal site not offering it.

As a recipient of payments, however, I wouldn't prefer it! Their fees are just soooooo darn expensive for incoming payments.

I have a small web based business, and like you couldn't afford the fees to offer credit card payments. I've happily used PayPal for all payments for the last two years, and my customers seem pretty happy with that - and I do make it very clear on the website that you DON'T have to have a PayPal account in order to use it, but simply use your credit card as normal!

For those customers who are wary of using any sort of online payment, I also accept cheques, for which I think I've had 2 in 2 years!

Best of luck with the new business.

That may be so. I know you can use a debit or card as a guest without logging into your paypal account HOWEVER if the card you want to use is registered to a Paypal account it won't process it without logging you in, which can be a problem if you have reached your paypal limit or have restrictions on your account.

Hmm, fair point, that would be very frustrating. Paypal's great when it works, and infuriatingly inflexible when it doesn't

No paypal would not put me off buying , however as a seller you should be very careful with paypal. I had an online business selling childens designer clothes and used paypal as my prefered method of payment. They have details of your bank accounts as you need to be able to transfer the money out of your paypal account and into your bank account. Make sure you send everything you sell via either recorded or special delivery. If a buyer makes a complaint either they have not received the item or item not as described paypal will always find in the buyers favour and you will have money withdrawn from either your paypal account or even your bankaccount without your authority to repay the buyer. I have sold clothes across the world, many to Australia/ new zealand, it can take up to 3 weeks to arrive. I have had paypal refund money without my authority because an item has not arrived within 14 days. I have had complaints that items have arrived with stains when they have been brand new or damaged, paypal will refund them. I have now closed my paypal account due to fees being withdrawn from my main bank account, eventually you will get through to paypal customer services who will tell you that a mistake was made and your money will be returned to you, i waited a very long time.
Again .... paypal will have the ability to withdraw money from your main bank account and they do! So be very careful....... other than that Good luck! Go for it!
