I keep reading on here about people not being able to sell their horses or having their time wasted when looking to buy. I know what its like myself, as over the years I've gone to look at so called superstars, to find they are a load of rubbish!
I'm wondering about helping the sellers by doing all the proper confo/action shots, taking appropriate videos, and making sure the right description is written. Also offering a "vetting" search for buyers based on their requirements, and taking into account that some people have an unrealistic idea of their riding abilities!
Do you think that people would be interested? I have nearly 40 years of finding cheap bargains, and making them into the genuine article, and can spot a splint/ confo fault at about a 100 paces! Just wondered if anybody would be interested in this kind of thing?

Go for it - having never sold/bought a horse myself, I am outside the box but seeing the amount of problems people have...!
Sounds like it would be very useful!

I'n not horse hunting, but if I was then would be interested in something like this.

Would you charge commission? How would people pay you for what you do?

My only worry if I were a seller would be knowing for sure I could trust someone to be onbjective and not have any links to a dealer for example.

I would have to think about charges. I suppose it would have to be according to time and distance. As to being affiliated to dealers, people can check me out by word of mouth and get references can't they? I've had several local people ask me to look for them and have been very happy when I've found something. The thing is, you've got to get it right both for you and the horse. As I'm a (one time) instructor, judge, county show competitor and smalltime breeder, I know that I have a pretty good idea of a horse and riders potential, if you see what I mean. In the past, I've refused to sell horses to people who would not be able to get the best out of them. Some people say I'm scary, but I say it straight, and I don't EVER tell porkies, they always come home to roost!!

You might need to look into insurance implications in case your recommendation turns out to be incorrect - it might not be reasonable, but I can imagine a disatisfied buyer trying to have comeback from you.

I also wonder whether the travel costs plus your commission would add substantially to the purchase price of the horse which would make it unaffordable, particularly in this financial climate.

we have soemthing like this in our area - http://www.calmequestrian.co.uk/
a few people use it, but tbh, i doubt they make much money from it. Most people have trainers to help them out with hings like that.. It is a useful tool though, but i cant imagine it would make you megabucks.

Must admit they were also my first initial thoughts, soon as money is exchanged you've already got the noose around your neck ready to taken to the cleaners should the horse not conform to the new owners requirements...and lets face it, there is some strange folk out there that no matter what, you can't please em!

But I do think it's a great idea, once you've looked into it etc, be great if it works.

Good Luck
