Would the back man sort this...

My 5yr old section d mare can't flex her neck to the left AT ALL on a 20m circle, shes very difficult to steer and want to know if the back man could sort this out for us? I don't want to pull her in the mouth to get her to bend but this is awful to ride; she just looks outside all this time.

It there a difference in their going after a session?
 
Not a big 'back man' fan. Have you got an equine physio nearby? Maybe your vet could recommend one. I think they are far more use then back people, as they assess and then come up with exercises to improve and hopeful prevent reoccurance. Of course they can only come on your vets approval, but at least you know they are fully qualified in what they do.
 
my mare found it very difficult to canter on the right rein (rushing legs flying everywhere) and started to buck and couldnt flex her neck as much on the left rein
had the back woman out and now she has a more steady rhythm in trot and canter and seems alot more comfortable
so its worth a try for peace of mind
 
1st I would want to rule out a cause for her reluctance to flex and she maybe guarding something, so discuss with your vet (any reputable back person will require you to get veterinary permission, so it a good place to start anyway). Also have her teeth been checked???

If yes to above then physio may well help, as can unlock muscles that have become tight or gone into spasm. They can also give you stretches to do.
 
I would go the vet route first and also get the hocks checked out as a recenty study in the States sighted hock problems as causing problems with the back and neck.
 
Thanks all. I will have a chat with vet. Yes, BS she may well be guarding something. I want her to as comfortable as possible. I have had her teeth checked and he wants to see her again in 3/4 time as there is more rasping to be done.

She is also VERY clicky in the neck & shoulders....
