would these be good dressage boots?

Personally - no

They have got a dull finish which is fine for everyday use but in the arena they would look odd IMO. Try to find somthing with a more shiny finish, there are loads of different brands to chose from Regent do some nice styles as do Di Niro and more expensive bands such as Brogini , Konig if your feeling rich!

Depends what level! At unaffiliated/lower levels those are absolutely fine, I guess if doing higher level BD you might fit in more in shinier boots? But I have just bought some of these and fully intend to use them for up to elementary level unafffiliated and if do eventers BD membership again next winter will be using them again for that.

I wear these at affiliated level and they're great. Very comfy too.
If you want to spend more they're are some lovely long boots around :D

Yes they would! They do have a matt finish when you buy them, but regular polishing has got mine now looking really shiny - I use Parade Gloss.

Just in Morrisons! I do the black ones with Kiwi Parade Gloss Prestige, checking the full name on the tin, in black, I think there is a clear version too that would do the brown ones, or I use Cherry Blossom Dark Tan on my Conistons, but I'm trying not to get them looking too polished. Use 2 brushes - one to put polish on with, second to brush it off and rub up.
