Waffled a lot!
We have a new rescue dog, been with us two months. Generally doing pretty well. Still young, and needing more training. Twice he has escaped from our field while I was mucking out, as the council has changed the stiles to kissing gates, which the dogs can push open. In the next field there are some builders with a collie, so new dog goes over to play when he gets through the gate. Both times it has been dark, and I didn't see him go, so when I noticed he'd gone I walked round the lanes in the dark shouting his name, quite worriedly! The dog (and builders) were in ea rshot, but dog is in "can't hear you I'm playing" mode. Eventually I notice where he is, and go to retrieve him.
If I hear someone shouting and obviously looking for a lost dog, and its with my dog (happens sometimes) I would shout to them that the dog was over here, instead of letting them trek round worrying.
The second time I got to the dog - and builders - I mentioned this to them, asking them to shout me if he was with them and they could see/hear me looking, and they looked at me like I was crazy, and it wasn't their fault that I couldn't control my dog!
Anyway, rant over! Going out to put acord around the kissing gate that hopefully will keep it shut (until someone leaves it open). Why do dogs run off to places that show you up!
