Would this be a deal breaker?

I'm looking at new yards for a few reasons.
One that I'm looking at that has space and is apparently nice but you cant jump in the school, I want to get the boy ready to go out eventing in the summer when I finish at uni so I dont know how much this would affect us. What do you guys think? If it makes any diffrence it would be his first season (unaff) and he can be green and under confident when jumping which is why I'm thinking it might not be such a good idea  and we wouldnt be out competing much at all (unless there is a very kind person who would give us lifts or tow my trailer if their horse could come to) untill I break up for summer.

Choccie biscuits on offer :D

If you want to get him ready for eventing I think you might struggle with not being able to jump in the school, especially if he needs some work on it too. Are there any other livery yards in the area? Might be worth doing a list of the pros and cons to see which one will suit the best :)

He really needs some work on the show jumping  its getting better and his break has done him good but its the sj that lets us down :( he has a genuine fear of fillers so it would be nice to be able to practice them.

As for other yards the one we are on now has no school and very little company when riding so I'm struggling. I have a list from uni and have contacted/ looked round them all but most dont have space or are a bit to far away. Why cant our yard from home move here it would be so much easier.

If I can borrow your dad's car I'll come and tow you! Not helpful I know! lol

Can you hack to anywhere who's school you can jump in from the yard? Uni or the yard you're at now? If yes, given that you probably only want to jump once a week or so it might be do-able. Do they have a jumping field you can use instead. Even in winter the ground is occasionally good enough to jump on if you're allowed to do so.

actually dh, I can probably borrow a car and tow you but it'll only pull one so we'd have to chuck BH out or tie him to the back and let him run behind or something. hehe.

You'll have to do your trailer test missy. It isn't that hard I promise. I passed after all. Then you can go where ever you like :)

Yay JT you should come down for pony parties in essex land :D Uni has schools that would be in hacking distance but they are expensive to hire :( unless..... ;) Thats the other thing they dont have nice fen soil round here its all clay so fast work and jumping are very limited by ground so far. Hehe the yellow one can run behind he is getting a bit porkey right now  2 months of light work and hes a rolly poly pony again not a lean mean pony machine even though hes kept most of his fittnes . I am planning to do my trailer test I'm thinking about doing it next summer but it depends how much it would be to put me on dads insurance.

JH - I cant really afford lessons that often right now as much as I would love to and with limited transport options it would be hard to find some where to go within hacking distance.

Surely you get special rates from uni?  Or could if you asked nicely enough?

Your insurance wouldn't be that bad as a named driver I don't suppose. Other wise you'll just have to give your trailer to me. Mwah ha ha.

Maybe we'll bypass the trailer and both the boys can just run behind my car if we have a pony party. :D

It sounds like having any school would be better than no school though? Can you join the waiting list for one of the other yards. You never know, you might get lucky. Any chance of persuading YO to let you jump in the school? what are their reasons for no jumping?

Special rates  dont be silly!! How else are they supposed to make money?

Hopefully as I'm no longer a teenager and have been driving a few years now it wont be to bad (crosses every thing I have) then I can pop home and pick the car up then go to pony parties down here when I want to then swap back at some point.

I'll just hack him back home at this rate ;) or we could meet you and BH in the middle some where??

Yeah thats my current thought a nice yard with a school would be better than nothing but having found this out today I'm questioning if its our best option, blimmin pony oblivious to all the stress and planning he causes :p. We are on the waiting list for a few yards but they are all getting further away from uni unfortunatly but they are options for next year if not.

Through all your tuition fees and accommodation money I would have thought. Cheeky beggars!

Hopefully next year I'll have sorted out my transport situation and I really can come for a pony party :) I reckon there are cars I can borrow so probably only need to scrape up enough for a trailer to begin with. What do you have near you now there isn't Towerlands anymore :(

Ha you wouldnt want to know how much the livery is :S.

Norton heath is very close, in fact I'm almost tempeted to see if I can safely hack there this weekend but I think I have to cross the almost equivilant of the A14 :(. Patchets isnt to far I went there with a friend to groom for her the other day but is the opposite side from cambs. Dont really know many others apart from the few rc things going on at college.

Have you driven around and looked at farms and tiny DIY yards that don't advertise? I moved to Essex a few months ago and had terrible trouble finding a yard that would offer suitable turnout for a laminitic. In the end I was driving around stopping at every place that had horses in fields asking. Where I am now is basically a farm/private yard but we have a school. YO doesn't have jumps but I am gradually acquiring poles and can put them on things like buckets and so on to make jumps until I can afford better. If you can't find an advertised yard that meets your needs I would seriously just spend a couple of hours driving around asking everywhere you see horses - you never know, you might get lucky. Less 'official' places seem to be more relaxed as well in my experience.

Having had a school I cant jump in whilst trying to get an inexperienced horse out eventing I would not reccomend it at all! Its surpirsing how much it affects you and the horse not being able to jump except for training and competitions, you miss all the schooling and the exercises.

Have you tried asking people on here who are/ have been at writtle about yards?

Thanks guys. I hack past loads of stables but I dont have a clue if any of them do livery will try and find out on my travels :).
