Would this be big enough for a 13/13.1 to go in at night?

No I wouldn't put my Shetland in it just too small my yearling is 12.2 at the mo and in a 12x.12 I would like him in something bigger if I had a choice

I am slightly concerned hat you have a pony but don't have the knowledge required to know what size and type of stable it needs.

To answer your Question, no its not suitable, you can get long enough fence posts at any builders merchant or farm supplies.

OP - you sound quite young and - as you said - inexperienced, but at least you are being proactive and asking for advice. If only every horse owner did that - we would not have the current welfare crisis! I just wanted to say well done and keep asking and learning. There are plenty of knowledgeable people on here who will be happy to help you without making judgements. Hope you get your stable/shelter sorted soon.

Okay, so should I be going for a stable built for 10x10?

If you are going for a stable, a 10x10 would be fine for a pony, but bear in mind that you may need a bigger stable for a bigger horse when you're older..

Even though I would also go down the living out route, you should always have a shelter or stable for emergencies. I would be inclined to get a field shelter with a door - we paid around £800 for that. Look for stable manufacurers locally. Some of them are good value..

You really should have some company too.:)

Builder's merchant or DIY chain for long posts, Mansfield is surrounded by forestry commission, who do sell timber. That shed isn't suitable for anything other than a store, a rat could chew through it in minutes. Maybe put your pony at livery if you are inexperienced, as you need to know what you are on with if you are expecting your pony to live out all winter.:)

I am silly? I read the question thank you, but anyone with the experience to have a pony would also have the common sense to house it properly?

If you do not have the sense or experience to know how to house a pony then what experience do you have in the general care and attention a pony needs?

this was weeks ago, but just found your post. It's because I am 13, and I have never previously had to stable a pony, in future I may just go and put a pony in a garden shed, because I clearly cannot ask on a website which is aimed at people asking for advice, without getting insulted and more or less being told that I'm not experienced enough for owning a pony- I do get help of my mum, who is experienced and has been round horses all her life, I just decided to ask a question on here, due to her being out.

I do feel sorry for the OP, she is only 13 and she did the right thing! I must admit at 13 I didn't know the exact dimensions a stable had to be for my pony, in fact I had never thought about it!

OP, you did the right thing by coming on here and asking for advice- you aren't in the wrong!

Sadly some people just aren't happy within themselves and feel the need to belittle others, it tends to make them feel more knowledgeable and/or experienced.

Seriously some people are acting like she actually put her pony in a shed
