You haven't really given a good reason for breeding from this mare (or anyother mare for that matter).

No wait a minute, you're getting me wrong. I don't have a reason because I'm not seriously planning it or thought about it deeply enough, if I ever did breed from her it certainly wouldn't be for a new pet foal or for leisure, I'm a dressage fanatic for a start so that will always been my intended route with any horse/foal/pony.

Some years ago, I had a TB x pony that I was growing out of and my sister wanted to take over. I couldn't afford another one outright but as I was working on a stud fam at the time, I got a discount on using one of their stallions, a gorgeous TB. So I bred a foal for me, sister kept the mare. As a lot of old style eventers were 3/4 TB I thought it would be a good mix. That was nearly 17 years ago and the filly we bred has been fabulous - she does anything, an absolute schoolmaster for the inexperienced but a lively ride for the competant. She's done PC eventing with a 14 year old, and qualified in all 3 disciplines for the finals. She does numpty dressage with me, and endurance, and a friend has been doing SJ and WHP with her (she qualified first time of asking for the BSPS champs in WHP and SHP) and she is absolutely a one in a million mare.

Temperament to die for, confirmationally fine, if I could clone her I'd be rich!

But I made a decision to breed from her too - not a foal for sale, a foal to take over from her in the future. He was born last year and I went yes, for a full bred horse, but his main points for me, lovely nature, conformationally he complements the mare, and he's an all rounder doing BE Novice currently. He's graded and British bred... but an Appaloosa!

And the foal, nearly a year old now, is fantastic - and I don't regret breeding either of them for a minute.

I don't consider it indiscriminate though, because on both ocassions I bred for what I considered good reasons and for me, not for resale.

So if you had similar reasons, I wouldn't say it was indiscriminate either!
