I am considering getting a sharer for my Genie, and would obviously have a contract. However, I would quite like the sharer to get their own rider insurance. I know they would be covered under Genie's, but would just feel happier if they had their own, and also it is a sign of a committment to her. Any share would be on a 2-month trial basis anyway, so wouldn't expect them to get insurance until after the trial is over of course. Does this sound like a reasonable idea or am I being completely mad? A polite 'you're being mad' will do, please don't shoot me down!

Another thing is, having seen various people on the yard I'm at be screwed over by sharers who have simply announced that they're not coming anymore, I would like to have a month up front. Of course then their last month (ie once they have given notice) would be free... Again, am I being mad or is this reasonable? Please can we not have a debate about charging sharers though? I will charge a sharer for being able to ride my horse and that's that as part of the reason for getting a sharer is financial, as well as to make sure Genie gets more exercise. They won't have to do any mucking out if they don't want to, as I am still prepared to do all of that... just turn up and ride and will be able to compete a little if they want to.

If you're unreasonable so am i, you should see my share agreement lol. You name it I've got in on there! including no hitting slapping shouting or rough handling of horse

She is my baby after all.

And I expect a fortnights notice as will but a month is fine as will

and understandable from your point of view. But I'd charge for that 2 weeks.

Yes and Yes - I have shared my horse and shared others and would say that what you are asking is fine. I have never insisted on someone having insurance but would recommend it for their sake as much as yours!

My sharer pays a month up front. I have in the past had a few sharers just not bother coming back at the end of the month, so least that way they have not had free riding and taken me for a fool. Please before anybody jumps on me for saying that about sharers, i do not mean that applies for all, just the few i have had recently, the one i have now is great and hopefully is going to compete him soon, it just taken me a while to find her.

Thanks everyone! I agree Sarah23, I don't mean that all sharers are unreliable etc, as many are absolutely fantastic! Have just seen too many that have been rubbish, and want to protect myself from that minority!
