I had my horse 2 star vetted before I got him about a month ago and he passed. The vet noted on the report of examination "spur on left longer teeth arcade" and advised me to get a dentist to see to him which today I have done.

Today the dentist said that a couple of his teeth on the left side are a mess and that there may be a fracture on one of the teeth and its going to require the tooth being removed. He reffered me back to the vet starigt away (different vets practice to the one that did the vetting) He also said that he would have been like this for many years

Does the initial vet commenting that there is a spur on the tooth mean that I wont be able to claim on the fracture and anything else that needs doing?

Hope this make sense, I am with pet plan equine,

thanks

thanks, my excess is £135 so if its around that then I wont bother claiming but I have visions of it being £500 plus if he has to go to the horse hospital. Has your horse had a tooth removed?

Did the insurance have a copy of the vetting and/or make any exclusions on the policy? Might be a bit tricky! Why don't you ask the vet for a rough estimate to have to tooth removed etc. It might not cost a lot for tooth extraction and if you have an excess it might not be worth claiming anyway. What about the original vet that did the vetting? shouldn't he have noticed that it was a fracture?? Might be worth trying that route if it's going to be expensive.
Good luck, hope you get it sorted.

No they never asked for a copy of the vetting, and the dentist did say that the vet that did the vetting should have picked it up and could be liable, thanks

I think it might be worth going down that route if it's going to be expensive. I would've thought he could be liable or at least may offer to do the work for you at a reduced cost. I had a similar situation with a vetting years ago, the vet was insured for such things and offered to treat my horse for free.

Had. Joint visit with a friend as we both needed get for sedation.

So was £25 call out for vet, £30 sedation and £35 per hour for edt or £35 for the consultation if under an hour. I'm not sure we were even charged for removal of the tooth as it comes under the hourly charge.

It was not a planned removal, edt found the offending tooth on visit.

Obviously if it needed horsepital I would look at insurance, but cross fingers it will be straight forward for you!

Thanks and the "horsepital" made me chuckle

Hmmmm. Tricky one but I think you'll find that a Stage 2 vetting only covers lungs, heart and basic legs (ie that there are 4 of them and they all point downwards). No idea why the vet was checking teeth anyway?
