Would you be angry if someone asked you to catsit 2 cats in their own home, but did not tell you when asked about any health issues, that her dog has MRSA? The dog is going into kennels but it may well have given the cats MRSA and it may be on surfaces such as door handles etc. My own cat was seriously ill recently so may be vunerable to infection.

I do always wash my hands thoroughly when handling other peoples animals before then handling my own, but I really do feel she should have told me. I let her dog lick my legs which are covered by moschito bites so I may have it myself now! I will be extra vigalent and wear disposable gloves when handling the cats then wash my hands thoroughly. I have also emailed the bella moss foundation for advice.

I wouldn't have refused to look after the cats had she told me, but I just wish she had been honest with me.

1000's of people are carrying MRSA without knowing it anyhow.

I know that Donkeymad, which is why I would not have refused to look after them. It is not a big deal for me. But my own cat is vunerable at the moment so she really should have told me so I can take proper precautions. After all say I had been handling her cats then rushed home, not done a proper hand wash and DRY (it is 40 dgrees here so I often don't dry) and then infected my own ill cat?

The issue is the lying. The MRSA itself isn't such an issue.

Just edited to say if my own cat had not ben vunerable it would not bother me at all. But with a potentially vunerable cat of my own I should have been at least told

MRSA is fine unless it enters your bloodstream via a cut etc. You have (everybody has) the same bacterium (staph aureus) living on your skin. It is only a problem when it enters the bloodstream which turns into septicaemia (eventually if not treated earlier) and "normal" antibiotics e.g. Penicillin, methicillin or amoxicillin don't work against it.

I wouldn't worry!

Yes I would be very peed off. I would of thought it was common courtesy to give you the update on the cats health for their sake and for yours.

You can then make your own decisions how you deal with the situation once informed.
