Right so test came back ect and vet said just use the wash, still using
yard ownre was suprised i didt get some power for her feed so we rang the vets they said no just use wash, so we did then we told yard owner and she wasnt happy with it so rang them herself vets said samething but now its spreading!! down her leg[Never had anyone on her legs] on the left side and on the right side theres more on the belly area, ok yes i know the vet knows best and alot more than me but come on? shes itchy and sore its just spreading over her body
and the vets wont do anything, the wash isint working, if it was it wouldt spread
Should we just keep trying with the vets, until they relise its getting worse and the scrubs not working?
I Just think its not fair on ebs?
 
Well she's probably itching herself on her legs so no surprise it's spreaded really tbh.

Did you ride her in the end? If you did, sweat dripping fromone area to another won't help either I'd guess.

Sadly just one of them things, keep getting the vet out until it goes away. Or if you really aren't happy with current vet, get a second opinion.
 
Have you put on Canesten cream as several people advised on your last related thread? It's cheap, effective etc.

Without wishing to cause arguments, are you being super careful about not touching the obvious ringworm then another unaffected part of her?
 
Yes i went to my tack shop to ask and he just said no just get the vet again :/
and yes dont go near infected areas and wear gloves when cleaning, wont groom
and no riding, there were my leg would go? and girth and now right under were my saddle would go :/

no we ask him what do get and hes like nothing you need a vet if its bad :S i was umm ok?
and well shes in a yard with others but no going out or anything and no one is allowed near her?
 
But you have had the vet out. Dont understand why you didnt still buy it!

But, if your not happy, get a 2nd opinion from another vet.
 
you need to be super strict with disinfecting things or youl just be going round in circles. try the cream others have suggested, you can get it anywhere. if it doesnt work it wont do her any harm if you try.
 
Just a thought....if she is in a stable, itching against the walls, she will be infecting the stable over and over.....every time you wash her, and she itches, it will surely re-infect.

I would honestly investigate the possibility of getting a small turnout area electric fenced off, and get her outside into the sunlight.....(if we ever get any!)
 
In the old days we put fulcin in the feed, no longer available. Sulphur is a cure for ring worm, if you can get hold of flour of sulphur it will be gone in a few days.

If there are scabs or scurfy skin this needs to be removed with a brush soaked in the Imaverol - scabs will protect the fungus and reduce the effectiveness of treatment. If there are raw areas then you should avoid too much scab removal in these places.

It may have been a good idea to have sprayed or washed her all over with the Imaverol as martlin suggested to target any areas of ringworm that were developing.

It sounds like you may need additional treatment - single products aren't always effective. She may need some Griseofulvin based powder or granules (Grisol V) added to her feed for 7 to 14 days but this would have to be on prescription from vet.
 
I was also advised to use the immaverol on the area around each scabby bit to a distance of 10 centimetres.

You just have to keep checking for new patches and when they appear, get the immaverol on but also do the area around the patch.
 
QR - what a kurfuffle over a bit of ringworm. In racing I've seen a lot due to the movement of horses etc anyway, I've seen it that bad that the horses have literally got no skin left. Imaverol is the best first defence but you must wash all over and wash all your gear preferably with virkon added to the wash to kill the ringworm on yours and her gear. I have used virkon as a dilute wash on horses with fantastic fast results but you need to be very careful as it can burn the skin. Virkon should also be used to wash the stable with too, we used 'fog' boxes after a ringworm attack to try to kill it.
Canesten is great for easing th soreness of the ringworm and we also used NoroFulvin - similar to the other feeding treatments mentioned. It is very potent stuff, I wouldn't handle it due to the health warnings on it.
 
Personaly i'd get another vet to look at her. In the mean time, i was told to err to making the wash stronger. So instead of doing one cap full of Imaverol to 50 parts warm water, i would used 1 and a half cap fulls to 50 parts warm water. Also wash her all over with it, not just were the scabs are.

Did the vet say anything about her itching? I'd maybe put a fly rug on her, atleast that way its contained under her rug and not spreading all over her stable. Make sure you wash the rug on a hot wash weekly tho!
 
By the sound of it your vet doesn't wanna know. If I was you I would get another vet out and get a secondary opinion, ask around your yard for recommended vets, people should be willing to help you.
 
I've known a few horses with ringworm but I'm sure none of them were itching themselves silly like your poor mare is.
My horse only had a few on his face and was treated with imavarol and I disinfected everything with virkon, and I mean everything!
He was still prescribed antibiotics though, trimethoprim I think, I've still got the vet bill so i can go and check later.
 
Imaverol is good but you need to make it up much stronger than it recommends. Bath the horse in it every two/three days. Wash everything tack/rugs your chaps/boots etc in virkon and disinfect your stable and bedding at the same time. Ringworm doesn't disappear over night and is a pain to deal with but its not the end of the world.
