Does your friend have numerous horses or do they only have one? I'd say its probably just the number of horses you have rather than you being a low priority.

Agree with this suggestion. Know we're always at the top of the list for our farrier because there's only two, they're barefoot, easy, and he gets to take them out of the stable then chuck them into the field. Takes him half an hour and he puts the clients with more horses later on in the day so he can get more done.

Lack of communication would really annoy me though, it's not particularly professional.

I stuck with a extremely capable, personable farrier for nine years who Every Single Time changed the appt at the last minute or didn't show. The excuses became more and more imaginative. He was the farrier on call for international x-c events, major races, you name it, and kept my pigeon-toed horses beautifully balanced.
However last year, under pressure from the fact that one of my horses had developed a serious condition, I burst out crying when he didn't show. That was it. Moved onto a new guy who is as good, turns up on time, early even, and texts me a reminder the day before. Never looked back.

Thanks everybody. I got hold of him and asked if I needed to make other arrangements. he assured me he hadn’t forgotten me, but didn’t give me a new time (I said I was happy to split it up abit if needed as have done that before for him). Then later on a got a text through with a new appointment time (for all at once) so all sorted now.
