Some of you may of read my other post about my mares fighting as the way their stables are, one keeps invading the others space.
You should be able to see what i mean with this pic!
DSC01619.jpg

As some people suggested i have swapped the girls around so the grey is in the corner stable and the black in the front, this worked abit better but Bella (the black) is now rearing up at Liz (the grey) as well as kicking out!
The guy who put the stable up has suggested that they put a grill up on the stable door between them so they can't touch each other and board up the bars between them so Liz can get away from bella, and not have to see her. I can see what he is saying but i feel abit like it's caging Liz in, it will also make the stable abit dark and uninviting i think? am i just being too soft? My yard owner could put her two horses in these stables but says she can't as she would have to move her mats

am leaving the girls out till i get something sorted now as i would rather they get abit chilly then end up with a serious injury due to trying to kick each other

I have a stable at home which is of a similar arrangement and it works out exactly as you have described. My only saving grace is that the corner stable has a top door (which remains closed at all times to stop the fights) but to stop the closed in feeling it has an open window that means horsey can look outside to yard. It's a pain in the ass though and I can't wait till I move house in the spring.

I'd put up the grill. I know what you mean about shutting them in, but the fighting isn't worth it! In some set up (my vets and local stud) they have sliding doors, so no horse can 'lean' out.

I guess Liz just wants to see whats going on and and bugs Bella! I had to seperate a brother an sister who would fight if kept so they could touch, I think a grill would have been the other thing to work in that situation.

The only other thing i worry about is, Liz, who is in the back stable dosen't even have to have her head over the stable door for Bella to start kicking out, door you think it fair on Liz to put the grill up AND have the bars to the back stable boarded up?

Well the best thing would be to swap to normal stables, so that you don't have to go through one to get to the other, but I'm guessing thats not an option??

Can the back of the stable be opened up so she could get a view that way?

We had to board up our talk grills too otherwise the 4yr old kept trying to kill the horse on the other side. I think so long as they go out and socialise for a while every day it's fine.

Also, as you're now looking for somewhere else to livery them it hopefully won't be forever! Though I would personally be telling the YO that if you don't get to move into her stables you'll be leaving and does she really want to lose your custom

but then I'm a stroppy cow anyway.......

That is all the alterations that can be done as far as i am aware!

I'm not really looking at moving yards as this yard has everything i need, i just need to sort the stables out, may have to discuss about moving into YO stables though, i will even move her mats for her if that's the case

Oh sorry, I misunderstood - I thought I remembered from one of your earlier posts that you were going to look at alternative yards - it obviously wasn't you

Tell the YO to shift them though - she is taking the mickey now , particularly since she knows of your troubles.

I have come across that arrangement in a Riding chool, very odd to my mind. I can only echo other suggestions and think you really must put up a grille. If you could, I would also suggest a window in the back stable, but this does not appear to be an option for you.

Offer to move her flipping mats!!! There is no way I would want my horse in that corner stable, in addition to the fighting the air quality in that stable is bound to be pretty poor (and will be worst if boarded up). TBH you shouldn't have let them bully you into those stables in the 1st place.

I think its an unacceptable arrangement - having one horse boarded up and shut in to prevent fighting is a pretty rough deal and as you are a paying customer I would suggest you put your foot down and demand to be moved.
You have been reasonable and tried it ( I personally wouldn't have!) but it clearly isn't working ( no surprise).
