If you where asked opinions of a horse that you thought was ugly, would you say so or just say nothing to save their feelings ??

Pointless post really, but thought I would ask !!! LOL

depends who was asking lol

id probably just say that it wasnt typically good looking but was still very cute

i wouldnt say directly that it was ugly! but i wouldnt lie either and say it was gorgeous if it wasnt

lol, my un-horsey grandma went with me to a BE the other day, was fascinated by the SJing, but as soon as a coloured horse came into the arena she said loudly (much to my embarrassment) "oh, I don't like that horse, it looks common!"
I tried my best to tell her that she was likely to get lynched by the owner/rider on the way back through the lorry park if they saw us, but she couldn't understand that a horse could be like someone's baby and never to insult them!
I would also try to be tactful, but if all else fails just be dishonest (unless it is something likely to affect the horse and not something just purely cosmetic).

Depends!
If they were just saying "Oh, isn't s/he pretty" Then I wouldn't say "Well, actually I think it's pretty ugly". I wouldn't lie though, I'd just say nothing.
But if they specifically asked for my opinion then I would be truthfull.

If it helps I know mine looks more like a donkey than it does a horse !!!!!!

Just came to me is all as I was working at yard on Friday and there is a horse there that I personally think is really ugly.

I am the one that lies when in earshot of anyone else and does the old, isn't he lovely !!!!!!!! Although to my hubby, familly and friends I admit it is ugly !!!

can usually find something nice to say about any animal. even if only small. would certainly not say ugly(if still wanted the owner to speak to me)!! mind you once told this lady her horse very handsome in a photo, she quickly reprimanded me and said she thought he was ugly! so can work in reverse

I get told one of mine looks like a donkey whereas I think he's gorgeous! But I think its very bad to slag off someones horse, it is like their baby.

I would get around it somehow. I wouldnt lie and say he was a stunner, but find SOMETHING nice about him and say that! Or a good one I use is: "he looks like a real honest horse with a nice eye", seems to make the owner change conversation and talk about how honest he really is etc.!

I certainly would never say anything hurtful, somebody a little while back had the comment "plain" directed at their horse and that must have played on their mind to do a post about it.

You can dance around the question skillfully and highlight a good point if you wish to be truthful.

depends what they wanted my opinion for. for example if it was their home bred darling...lie! or if it was to spend 50 grand on the next Hack of the year then truth might be more appropriate!

A woman once asked me what I thought of her horse. I told her it was the ugliest horse in the world. Three years later I bought him and at Sheepgate last week he was fourth in the Junior FEI test being ridden at that level for the very first time.
However when he was 31/2years he was ugly, he had no neck and looked like a bulldog.

I wouldn't say it to the owners faces but I might think it to myself. I would be mortified if someone told me they thought that my beautiful girl was ugly

But Moon is beautiful!

When I first bought Sam I thought he was REALLY ugly lol... but now I think he is beautiful, not sure whether he looks different or my eyes have just adjusted?

I would never be rude enough to tell someone their horse is ugly, I tend to find most ugly horses incredibly cute though so always have something nice to say lol!

Well I probably wouldn't say anything about his appearance unless I was asked. If I was asked then I would say something like he isn't the best looking chappie in the world but hey if he does the job well then what does it matter....or something along those lines.

I'd never say a horse is good looking if it is ugly though - that would be lying. I have a couple of horses that aren't ugly but they aren't beautiful either - it's clear to me however I do have a lot of people comment on how lovely looking they are....sometimes I wonder if some people are blind LOL!!

Everyone's idea of beauty is different, so I wouldn't say anything. I think Chex is a handsome chappie, but I know others would say he's an ugly looking cow horse! I accept that, just don't say it to my face

probably would be honest, i'm rubbish at lying, when people have ugly babies I just cant bring myself to say 'oh isn't it beautiful' just make a neutral comment like 'isn't it small?'

I tend not to comment. If someone is asking confirmation then I give honest opinion. Horses are such a personal thing. I love a super smart cob yet would never buy one for myself. I think I am quite snobby about horses and I certainly like good looking ones. I do not worry about what people think about my horse as I have my own opinions on him and am certainly not blind to his issues.

I would just find a nice comment to say, like "he looks very kind" or something. Its like people, if I think somebody is ugly of course I wouldn't say so to their face or their mother or girlfriend haha, but I couldn't lie and say they were beautiful either.

Sometimes on forums you see pictures of the ugliest horses, and you get so many people saying "aww how handsome." I just think, why lie!

I agree with xspiralx and henryhorn, you can usually find some nice thing to comment on, even if its only 'lovely colour' or 'nice eye'! Would never say a horse is ugly to the owner. Chances are they think he/she is beautiful.
