falabella is not one of the 9 native british breeds for M&M and that is what I assumed a 'mini' was - so falabella should not be in a m&M class
i think he may have a touch of green eyed monster syndrome = JEALOUSY!!! unfortunatley you get this in the showing world, i had nasty comments made about my mare when i entered her in an in hand "working hunter pony" class - she is a minature cob at only 14hh, so at local i show her as a worker as well, two people outside the ring - who's daughters pony was 5th out of 15 - slagged my girl off saying she had no place in the class and i must have back-handed the judge!!! he actually told them to be quiet and if he had to hunt all day, " the little cob would be the one i would choose, tidy strong and workmanlike, and the only one in the class with correct turnout for horse and rider!!
it would not offend me at all if a miniture was placed above me, i don't know much about them but your chap is so beautiffully in proportion, a true miniture horse, some sec d's are not that great and move dreadfully, but because of their sheer size and presense, are often placed highly when they don't deserve it, i know of one that has horrendus movement in front and the wobbliest hocks you have ever seen i would certainly not place it let alone breed from it, and i love welshies! the trouble with alot of welshie owners is that they are so stable blind, i have given up showing mine as the bitchiness at the shows is unbelievable!
good luck with your showing though and well done, i would go and beat hin again , i think it is hilarious as this guy is just sooo pathetic!!
in which case as it wasn't m&M and was best condition then it should be judged as I stated - conformation, behaviour, condition (obviously). movement, turnout
and from you piccy he'd get good marks for condition and turnout, behaviour and movement cannot be seen from the piccy
I don't dislike mini's 'cos they are mini - I dislike them because they are typically bought by people who think because they are small they need less care and are 'cheap' to look after - and then the mini ends up being laminitic, overweight or fed an unsuitable diet - and a lot of those ills are because the mini's can't actually do much real work or be ridden. so I 'dislike' them because I find their smallness=a vulnerability to mistreatment that I view with concern.

You said Mini's weren't a recognised breed and I said shetlands and falabella's were both recognised. I only linked the miniature shetland to M&M, not both breeds. Sorry if I wasn't too clear on that.
ETS - we drive Pepper, so they do have their 'uses' but i do understand where you are coming from.
As you well know, we have a shetland pony, who we are immensly proud of. I'm pig sick of the "It's just a shetland... what use is it?" and "it can't be ridden properly" comments. He might be small, but he has a bigger personality than most horses I have known, and much more love to give. Personally I can't see the fun in being trampled by a 17hh horse (a 9.3hh pony is bad enough
).
I'm the sort that would enter an open show, just to prove that little can win over large. Inky obviously has star quality or he wouldnt be getting the consistent results he's been getting. He's a babe!!! And I want him.....
He's lovely and why the hell should he not beat a D? I know you know I am going to say this but..........IGNORE HIM. Easier said than done, but the point is you have a lovely horse - so what if he is a miniature - he is still a lovely horse. This man has a problem, his problem is you beat him - don't let him give you his problem, if he can't stand the heat he should get out of the showring.

I find this a valid if not surprising view. What i mean is most people say is they dont like minis because they dont understand what you can actually do with them. Although you could say the same about the vulnerability of other breeds i.e welsh regarding weight control. I totally agree with you on this one. The amount of people who approach me and say " how cute" and that they'd like one to mow their lawn/ for the kids to play with etc.... is unbelievable. There are plenty minis out there that are sold as such i.e easy to keep, cheap to feed and look after etc.... and TBH there are too many owners who advertise this. They do have a stigma attached to them that is wrong. However i would like to add that i didnt buy Inky for this reason!!! He hasn't proved cheap to look after, cheap to feed yes, new trailer, new car to tow with, Insurance, new rugs, entry fee's ... the list goes on.... proved VERY expensive
but this wasnt why i bought him. I care very much about his weight and his diet ( as my previous posts show ) and he gets plenty of exercise ( take him upto the moors in the trailer to do hill walking etc... ) and would like to think that i do everything right by him. I do believe as you stated that unfortunaltey many are not looked after like this and this does give them the stigma that is attached to them.
When we got Pepper, the owners before us had her as a house pony!! She had the back garden and the downstairs of their house to live in, she even got on the sofa in the evenings. She had never seen a horse since being taken from her dam at 5 months. A very sad state of affairs. The owners had found that she wasn't house trainable (I don't know who said they are) and had eventually decided they weren't being fair to her - and she was ruining the carpet.
she now lives with my 16hh horse and a nice bunch of other big horses. She is a horse again and does horsey stuff. she goes for in hand hacks, does in hand jumping, in hand dressage and as I mentioned above she is learning to pull a cart. She is far from pointless, which she has been labelled on more than one occasion and we take her health etc very seriously.
I agree with airedale that it is a shame there are people out there who think they can housetrain them, use them to mow the lawn etc. it's wrong.
Ah bless her sounds like she has a whale of a time now!!! I would like to do In hand jumping with Inky when he's a little older it looks so much fun!!!
I had a coloured cob i used to show in hand, the only time i was disgusted at being moved down was when the winner had terrible feet with cracks and chunks missing, the horse was dirty having just been draggerd off a box with no bandages or boots and had green legs, it had a dirty bridle and the owner looked a mess as well, but your mini is lovely and deserved to do well. Im not a mini fan i like cobs, natives and coloureds but yours is adorable!
i wouldn't be offended if Inky was placed above me, i would want to come and give him congratulations kisses cause he is so gorgeous. The man sounds like he is just being as ass cause Inky beat him.
Oh custardsmum, we have 2 minis (both 31 inches) that we are breaking to ride for the kiddies. One of them is turning out to have a bit of a flair for jumping and the other seems like he will be the perfect hack. The have a 3 1/2inch bit and a 10inch saddle, their tack is soooo cute.
Now imagine how someone would react being beaten in a jumping class by a mini, that would be class!!!!
Jacks mum, yours sounds lovely as well, its just not the type i normally go for. Although i will say the little ones are all full of character! Weve got a shetland and he is out on loan now to a girl of 3 and she does anything with him, but with adults he can and does show his very cheeky side.
It has already been said, but a horse is a horse, and should be judged on his merits according to the class, on the day. All credit to the Judge too, judging is hard enough with all the snide comments and back biting that goes on....if Inky was placed above a Cob then he was good enough to do that in the Judges' opinion, and that is the only one that counts
Cob man simply showed really bad sportsmanship, why compete if you can't take being beaten? I don't understand that.
Well Done. I think he's a cracking little horse and he is looking so well. Good for you and keep it up (with reports please)
Oooh!! I like Dreamcatcher and Groovy Girl too! They really are sweet little things.
Inky is quite perfect as a small horse isn't he - looking at him in the picture without you in, you really wouldn't know he was as small as he is. Cuteness personified! Thanks for that.
LOL!! You said he was a "partbred" American Miniature Horse; I just wondered what that meant.....maybe it's me being dim
.
I don't really understand these newish breeds unless I am directly involved in them - I bet most don't understand the APHA (Paint) or Appaloosa; I only do because I am members of them.
Oh sorry!!!! Partbred meaning one parent is british and one parent American as oppose to American Miniature where both parents are American bred, or british Miniature where both parents are British!!
His dad is Minkie ( Rio Bella Farms Im A Cowboy ) the top stallion
I wouldn't be upset if Inky beat me at all. He is stunning. And you turn him out so well. I only get upset when horses beat me that in my opinion shouldn't have. Badly behaved, didn't show well, were dirty, out of condition, shown incorrectly. But I always say well done to the placings around me whatever has beaten me.
