I have recently found out that someone has taken pictures/videos of my horses in the fields, and are posting them on forums/on line photo sites passing them off as their own horses.

To begin with I was a bit cross, initially because someone had actually gone into the field to take these pictures! I was also angry that whoever it was is passing off horses as their own that they have nothing at all to do with! But then I thought about it, and come to the conclusion really it is a bit sad.If they can't afford/don't have a horse of their own, and feel the need to fantasize about owning my lot, they must be desperate, lol.

I have come to conclusion that it is pathetic really, and am no longer cross (other than the tresspassing part). I haven't bothered reporting it, or asking the forum hosts/photo sites to remove the pictures (I doubt that they would anyway). I just wondered whether other people would be bothered as I was telling someone at the yard about it and they got really cross, saying that if any of their horses were on there they would contact the police, but what could the police actually do? Nothing I bet.

The police would do nothing I'm afraid ZoeShiloh - there doesn't seem to be a crime commited here. I think I'd be a bit disturbed but if I was convinced that they really just wanted to pretend they owned horses then I would probably pity them a little too! I'd keep a close eye out though just in case they want to take their "ownership" further - it is rather odd behaviour!!

If it was my horses i would call the police and get the pictures removed then at least if there is anything more sinister going on it should put them off.

Well I wouldn't be very pleased to say the least, I would have the photos removed and would be contacting the person, you don't have to nasty or anything but explain that there not their horses and shouldn't be passing them off to be, secondly they should not be trespassing and taking photos on your property or livery yard etc and thirdly they should not be putting photos on the web without your permission.

I know its a shame when people don't have a horse of there own but there is nothing wrong with them approaching you, asking to spend some time with your horses and asking permission to take photos of them because they are fond of them and would like to talk about them on a forum, if your cool with that then great, but they should ask first.

I feel sorry for them that they live in la la land, would request both the poster and the forum to have them removed. Would not bother the police as I think they are too overloaded to deal with someone posting photos.

It is a bit sad. BUT if you think it might cause security issues for you, then I would ask for photos to be removed.
On a bad day I might be tempted to out them on the forums in question, but I suppose that would depend on what they said...
Got any links?

I would be more concerned about the tresspassing. I'd leave signs all around the boundary - 'tresspassers will be prosecuted' as well as 'do not touch the horses'. TBH, I would probably send them a message saying if I ever saw them post a photo of my horse and/or step onto my land ever again, I'd shoot them in the head

It is ,I think ,rather sad. I think i'd be quite flttered though, that someone was so keen on my horses that they wanted to pretend they owned them. I'd contact the person and let them know you know what they are doing. Some years ago people near me had their horses removed from paddocks and ridden by a couple of local teens, on a regular basis. One girl had told the other she owned them and offered her a ride.....................

I'd be very annoyed at the trespassing. I don't like people approaching my horses.

I'd ask the hosts of the sites they are being posted on to remove them, and make it known to the person that you were aware of what they have done and should they attempt something similar again, then you will take legal action.

I would be a little bit worried about what they might try next.

At the moment they have just taken pics and pretended to own the horses, but they will have to carry on the story to keep it creditable and how far will their fantasy take them?

Luckily I have moved all my horses nearer to the house now, so it can't happen again (hopefully). As I said the only thing that really bothered me was the tresspassing - if they want to try and convince peope that my ragged lot belong to them, well, that is just sad, lol.

I'd definately take the side of caution (without becoming paranoid) It wouldn't do any harm at all to inform your local police i'm not sure if they have an 'equestrian unit' i know Imber Court in Surrey do and you could always contact them for advice, also i would definately contact the admin team on the forum you've mentioned because if nothing else its misrepresentation.

I don't know - part of me feels really sorry for them

There's no way I could ever out them publicly on a forum - maybe I'd just send a kind private message saying I am aware they took pictures and would prefer if they stopped passing off my horses as theirs.
