Would you bother replying

Am i being to fussy here, got one of my lot advertised for loan with a pretty good description of what he is like and the type of person he is for, I only seem to get replys that just reading them makes me think they are just after a free horse. Would you reply to this?-

Sorry to bother you I am just email about the horse you have to go in loan as my friend is very interest in your horse and would like to loan him could I please have more details
 
No I wouldnt bother either. If her mate was that intetested s/he would contact you themselves. If they cant be bothered sending an email, how can they be expected to look after a pony?
 
I got one message off someone a couple of weeks ago saying they would like the horse and know of a place they can hire a stable and hay is provided and will i deliver him. What are these people thinking when they are replying to an ad for an exracehorse who sometimes rears.
 
I would give them a chance and ask what sort of information they are after

It's a one line email for you and may lead somewhere

Lack of good English is not the end of the world and perhaps the friend is wavering so the person thinks they can sway them with more info

Yes it's probably a dead end but if it is at least you didn't dismiss them offhand
 
Not saying your manner is offhand I hasten to add! Just that first impressions aren't always right if that makes sense
 
Well out of interest i replied asking what info they wanted and i got one of them mailer demon replies saying unable to send. Is it dodgy? I dont know much about computers and why they do or dont do things!

A few years ago whilst selling a second pony that I'd been led to believe was a first pony I had a very strange reading email in quite broken English enquiring about the pony and was it suitable for an 8 year old girl wanting to leap things! I was really suspicious but politely emailed back suggesting they call me to discuss it. I got another reply saying don't speak English ok and father is away! Decided it was definitely a scam so said you can come and look on x day between these times and shock horror they turned up! Lovely young girl with a Hungarian step mother who hadn't been in the country long. Dad was a soldier and wasn't back from wherever for another two weeks but daughter had liked the pictures of our pony.

They bought her for the full asking price and I still get emails now, they've had her 4 years and are hoping their youngest child will start riding her soon. I've had pics from them out jumping and we get a Christmas card each year, really lovely people. So whilst on the whole I'd agree it's suspicious it's still worth two minutes of your time just in case. :)

This ^^^ only mine was for loan, not sale. Knee-jerk reaction - no chance, reality, (once I thought, what's the harm and let them come) best home imaginable. Sometimes you can be surprised.
 
No I would not reply, I think making an enquiry for a horse by email or text is just not on a telephone call is a must I am afraid, added to the fact the whole email sounds dodgy to me.
 
Sorry OP but that sounds like the classic scam where a vague reply is received that could equally well apply to a 2nd hand car or washing machine or horse. They'll end up asking for your address, bank details etc and give you a load of cr*p about cheques clearing and such rhubarb. Don't reply. Delete any messages already received.
 
No in fact I'm even more judgemental tbh, I stopped replying to emails that asked things I'd obviously stated in the ad (within reason if the rest of their message sounded realistic I'd give the benefit of doubt) I can't see any one not having enough confidence to email. If that were the case have they got enough confidence to look after your horse?
 
Sounds like a scam to me, wouldn't reply personally. You aren't desperate yet are you..?

My boss often gets emails about horses for sale asking if she would consider an exchange - problem is, the people who do it never seem to have any concept of horse value. Most recent one - Would you consider exchanging your 6-year-old very well-bred and already-successful showjumping mare for an unpapered one-eyed 12-year-old broodmare who has had some "really pretty foals". Erm... no?
 
Guess it is something dodgy seen as the email doesn't exist anymore. Don't actually know what the point to it was. Not desperate just would like him out on loan so I can concentrate on the new one. Anyone want exracehorse north east area?

I had someone respond to my loan ex-racer who has had virtually no schooling and has never even seen a pole on the ground before let alone jumped with:

Hi I like your horse. Ive been riding for 6months and want something that will live out all winter with not much food. Horse will need to be able to go xc every other weekend during the winter and not need ridden much inbetween. I have experience of looking after my own horse. I have had a palamino arab stallion for the last 12 weeks and have gained many acheivements with him. You can see these on the Horsebook game on Facebook

Eh naw love! I replied suggesting that she took her request to a riding school and not to trouble people with horses advertised for loan or sale for a very long time.

I always email or text first.

I don't like phoning, I find it a bit invasive - I don't want to interrupt work, evening etc.

I want to put down a few simple questions that will determine whether I'm interested in following up with a viewing. Then I'll contact over phone at a suitable time.

Last time I phoned I hung up without having remembered to ask anything of use!
