would you buy a 20 yr old???

so if i got said pony she can teach my horses well needed manners too? :)

both fillies are well behaved with me just not anyone else and they (well one) is very unruly in the field
will only be companion (poss maybe a sit on lawn mower if kiddies come down to see them) but will not be rode more than 1 lap of the paddock every few weeks.

thank you for all the stories of "older horses" that have worked out. i have decided i am going to get said pony :):):):) and cant wait now. hopefully she will be with me for a good 10 yrs :) xxx
 
Our YO gave us a 25+ pony on loan who had been retired from the riding school as she was getting sour. She had loads of life in her, no stiffness at all and is happy doing PC with my eldest, lead rein with my youngest and gentle hacks with me! Wouldn't part with her for the world!
 
depends on the pony and what you will use it for. Mine is 21 years old and just about to restart his long distance ridign career after a 10 year break! I only plan to do 20 mile set speed rides though. A poor lady on our yard bought a 6 year old mare to compete on that had done nothing other than be a broodmare and be broken in and unfortunatly it turned out to have long term damage to its fetlock and she had it destroyed on vets advice 6 months later. thats the trouble with horses and pony's - you have no idea if a 20 year old will stay fitter or less fit than a much younger horse during the same period of time.

I think OAP's are worth their weight in gold - I'm sure you won't regret your decision! :D
