Would you buy a fantastic allrounder if..

i'd consult a vet to get their opinion on it , but no i dont think it'd nessiserally (sp) put me off depending on what i wanted to do with the horse.

Personally, no. Not wanting to sound rude, but my ideal horse wouldn't have a turned in forelimb.

It does depend what you want to do though. I'd just be worried about possible soundness issues in the future.

Having said that, we have a pony who toes in (not the limbs though, just the feet) and he's sound as a bell and moves like a proper little dressage pony.

Yes i would, think of that fab mare that won a lot of money racing, she wouldn't have passed the vets as she paddled when galloping, none of us is perfect and if you can find a perfect horse then fab dizzzy ozzy and how about tendon boots

I would be very wary, if it could have been corrected why hasn't it been? I would think the boat's been missed for that one.

I am guessing the mare is in very light work if this is her first set of shoes? To me there would be too much risk. There us no way of knowing if this mare is going to stand up to work.

You might be lucky like Nudibranch. I would certainly take vet advice on it at the very least, possibly x rays too. A farriers opinion would certainly be helpful too.

Thanks, horse has only been ridden few weeks, owner had 2 young children so hadn't even been backed hence why not ever been corrected / helped sooner. The horse is a poppet has potential to be great allrounder as v chilled and goes v nicely, has v good breeding but would aim it to become an allround RC type instead of real competition horse due to conformation.

main thing you dont want is to get an exclusion fromthe start on insurance. i bought a youngster which was toe in and it was noted but i was lucky and was still covered by insurance. be wary you never know if what you are looking at is the foot after some correction as it may have previously been worse! i would pick the foot up and have a look at the underneath to see how the foot is set on as shoes can be decieving sometimes. If the horse has been trimmed in the past i would assume the farrier would have worked on the toe-ind ness be very thorough with your questions and personally i would even ask if the owner would give the farrier permission to have a chat. i they are very open about it all and the mare is fit healthy in every other way then go ahead. Some people have the straightest horses who go lame and others the wonkiest who stay sound!! a lot is down to the conditioning you do in my opinion,

When i got my skewbakd horse he was noticeably pigeon toed in front, dished quite badly and was very close, almost plaiting behind. However he was also very skinny and lacked muscle due to being in very light work. After a few months of gradually increasing his workload and feeding him properly he was much better and now stands like a normal horse, nice and squarely with no toing in, dishing, closeness etc. He did once get a stress fracture infront which could be due to the way he moves but is more likely due to me working him too much on hard ground. Otherwise he has always been very sound and doesn't dish at all now. So maybe with this mare, once she's working and got some muscle on her she will straighten out.

Depends how severe the toe-in is and where it is from (ie the knee or ower down). I think at 4yo you have a chance of correcting it a bit with decent farriery. We bought my sisters 4 yo Andalusian x and his legs turned outwards and he dished a bit on one leg.

However, he was very gangly anyway and we had him 5 stage vetted. Vet say he was very weak in front (which he was) and, if we did buy him we would need to make sure he was shod well and not to do too much with him until he'd developed more as he advised he could be prone to splints due to the uneven stress on the front legs.

That was 5 years ago and he has turned out to be brilliant - no issues with his legs at all and they have straightened as well as filling out enormously in his chest etc. He loves his jumping and eventing and has won numeorus times BSJA and done BE to PN. We bought him for a fair bit less than they were asking and got a real bargain!
