i am needing to replace my ventair skull as i had a couple of falls in it, should have really been replaced months ago:o so i know what size i need... and its on sale on the derby house website:) but ive heard its not a good idea to order online due to them being chucked about by couriers etc - but surely they have to be delivered to the shop in the first place and are well packaged?

if you know what size it is you should be fine, if its a different brand to normal then i would get it fitted in a shop.

derby house are normally pretty good it should be fine bought online and if you find its damaged they would probably let you return it

thanks - yeh i was just going to get the same hat again:)

I worked in a saddlers and we were forever getting folks in to try on hats, then they went off never to be seen again so it was assumed they were buying on-line. They're pretty well packaged so I wouldn't worry about damage in transit.

I have done many times, from Derby House and Champion Ventair ones too, I struggle to get places to stock the ones that fit me and that I find comfortable locally so once I found one that fitted I have since ordered replacements or additional ones online (I always buy Champion Ventair models so the fit and shape is the same).

But I do get refitted every year by Champion themselves at Burghley, I don't mention I already have a hat of any size and I find that reassuringly every year they tell me the same one as I have :).

no! i like to wear it and get a feel and have it fitted. no 2 hats are exactly the same.

yes but im talking about buying the exact same hat here.... i had my champ ventair fitted 2 years ago, after having bought a gatehouse that after a week have me awful headaches, and having had a C&O for less than a year that kept working itself loose as the padding wore down so quickly. So I have been delighted with my ventair and know its a good fit - it was more the sending it out to me that concerned me...

I bought mine online - like you I know the ventairs fit me.
I bought from prequestrian on ebay and what reassured me when I spoke to the guy is that they won't exchange hats if you buy the wrong size because you could have dropped it while you were trying it. And the did come very well packaged.

Yeah I would in fact going out to saddlery shop today to try one out and then Im ordering it online. Much cheaper than getting it from the saddlers.
