Would you buy a horse that had been parelli trained?

If it was the right horse then it wouldnt bother me. People all train in different ways - when the horse goes to someone new it learns and slots into the new 'regieme'. I shared turnout with a woman who did parelli on her horse - she also competed to medium level dressage on it :)
 
It would have to be an amazing horse for me still to buy it, partly because I don't like the way they are trained so would have to waste my time re educating the horse and partly because I couldn't be bothered to pretend to it's owner I didn't think it was a load of rubbish.
Whilst I hate parelli its not just parelli i would use in a process of elimintion. I would eliminate other horses if they had been with a trainer I really didn't like, I've ridden 2 oli townend horses and didnt enjoy how they went or what they were like in the box so I wouldn't want anything from him either because he rides and trains too differently to me

no, it wouldn't put me off so long as the horse had manners and the potential I required.

I think some of the exercises in parelli & similar are very good for the horses, some people take it too far, some use it as an excuse not to ride. OK, the parellis themselves are not my favourite people nor are those that think parelli is the only way but if the horse is the right one for me not much would put me off
 
Best bargain I ever had, :) honestly!!!
She was ment to be a nightmare and differcult to do, she was bloody confussed!!! She's gone from being a total nightmare and in their words dangerous to ride to a great eventer and team chaser. I only paid £500 as well.

Hi I have put a new thread up, My horse has been away and been parelli trained he is back now and i want to retrain him have you any tips to ease this for him
 
It wouldn't bother me in the slightest, and I struggle to see why it would be an issue for some people. What are the people who wouldn't want a horse trained using Parelli looking to do with the horse?

It's not a case of "This horse has been trained using Parelli methods therefore he can not be led in from the feild or be tacked up".

Parelli is a method of training, just like some people use side reins, spurs (as previously mentioned), draw reins etc.
 
I Bought that 16.2 WB X Welsh and you lot missed out. He is a Beautiful Boy that has won me Championship Rosettes and 1st Places. He is a Magnificent Boy AND i Ride him, You Guys should look beyond Parelli, Your Loss!

Defo, not Parelli . . . they're all about "the zones" and right, smack behind you isn't one of them. My own horse will walk right behind me with his face in the small of my back if I let him . . . it's his default. Nothing whatsoever to do with Parelli. Interestingly, if I ask him to, he will also move up and walk next to me with the leadrope slung over his neck and follow me onto the yard.

If I liked the horse enough then the fact that it was Parelli trained wouldn't necessarily put me off. However, I've met some Parelli trained horses who make me run a mile.

I get a bit tired of these old ones, but I have to say, if your not into Natural Horsemanship leave these horses well alone. The horses won't thank you for the re education, if you can. It's just not fair on the horses, to go from a NH environment to a traditional yard, you will have problems.
We don't sell horses any more, but when we did it was only to NH homes, much better for a horse brought up that way.
 
I did! :) Her previous mom showed me my girls training when I went to see her. The poor soul did the horsey equivalent of yawning. Mom didn't do much riding after the demo so I popped on and fell in love with her. Once home you would never know she has been Parelli Trained but then I couldn't tell the diference between a good trainer or a bad one. My girl is a 6 year old highland. :D
 
Didn't understand why my highland needed PT as she is the sweetest thing. Never put a hoof wrong - except a madam to load the first time but couple of carrots (not carrot stick) later she walks on...:)
 
Bribery and corruption.

I doubt she needed PT as some sort of remedial work. Some people prefer to train that way.

The real problems come when a horse is at a high level, and someone tries to do something traditional with it, it's just too much and the horse becomes confused. Yelling in a different language is how the horse views it.
 
Cant see the problem myself.

Our little cob was ridden traditionally, then my daughter went through a phase of Parelli (couldn't see the point myself).

Our girl is now 23 and you can ride her both ways quite happily.

She also had a lot of success in the show ring after doing the Parelli.

Perhaps wouldn't want a horse that had ONLY done Parelli :D
