As title. Does anyone have any experiences with roach backs and what problems they cause? And would you buy a 6yo to be a RC allrounder who had a slight roach back?
Thanks to anyone who replies :)

this mare jumped for Italy at the olympics in Athens. She is now a broodmare and all her foals have been normal. Would I buy one? Might do if horse moves normally and saddle fitting isn't a problem.

A slight roach is less of a problem than a slight dipped/sway back.

If the horse was perfect in every other way (and not destined for showing or breeding), then yes I would consider a sight roach.

I agree with this, my present mare has a slight roach back, she was 6 when I got her and now she has filled out a little more and her musculature has improved most people aren't even aware of it and its never caused her any issues to date (she's now 13).

Depends. A slight roach back isn't going to cause issues as so far as in a normal backed horse. Meaning both can have issues if not properly conditioned and use of poor fitting tack. Many horses out competing could be defined as slighty roached back. But a very noticeable roach probably not. And wouldn't deal with sways of any kind. Personal opninon of course.

My horse has a slight roach back and it doesn't effect her at all. When she has a good amount of muscle and top line it is barely noticeable!
So as long as it wasn't too bad then yes I would!

There is a cob that is on my friends yard, its very roached back & the owners have had problems with him rearing & tanking off, which i think is down to the saddle fit (they havnt had a fitter out for him or had his back looked at since they bought him 3 months ago). I personally wouldnt buy one, but i guess its down to personal preference.

Same as most posters. Slight roach yes I would, as long as you can get tack to fit and its not causing any other problems. My boy has a very slight roach, in fact you wouldn't be able to see it if he had more topline.

Sway back. Never. But roach yes. Just make sure you get some money off the asking price ;)

Depends on the horse - I had a tb who had a moderate roach, he took months to get right with regular chiropractic but once he was sorted he only needed maintenance visits every 6 months or so to keep his back fine.
