Would you buy a horsebox with really high mileage....?

I have seen a horsebox that I like but it has really high mileage of 500,000kms....? Would this put you off as a potential buyer...?

my mechanic jokes that my leyland roadrunner is just about run in at 550,000 km. I would view mileage on a van conversion with suspicion, but not a diesel truck.
 
That's not high mileage then unless it's a very new chassis. They were built to do that sort of mileage several times over:)
 
Wonderful thank you...... It's a bit of a price still at 15k but wanted to make sure people wouldn't be put of by mileage for resale etc if I do consider it.
 
If it was 5 years old and an ex TNT lorry and the like then I would be wary just because sometimes the comparitive lack of miles and less regular servicing that come with being a horsebox can mean bits start falling off :D

But if it's been there done it then shouldn't be an issue. Mine had done over 600k and it is all okay, and once the OH finally finishes replacing the block on it will be back to full form!
 
P reg - has been regularly used pretty much every weekend all over the country, hence higher mileage.

What should I be looking for in particular Mike...? Thanks

You should be looking for a really good profesional lorry mechanic,to check it over.

Find a friendly truck mechanic, preferably one with Iveco experience and take him with you.

As said above, 500k km is really nothing for a truck, Eddie Stobart sell their lorries on after three years with 300k miles on the clock.

However, whilst the engine might be fine and running sweet as a nut, corrosion to the chassis, bodywork and paintwork, as well as electric and electronic gremlins will be something to keep an eye out for. That will be where your friendly truck mechanic comes in.
