Would you buy from Lidl?

I stoock up on the gloves at about £4 a pair. Last ages and much much cheaper than Roekl (sp)
Had some brushes and also saddle soapy stuff which was great. I dont bother with the rugs, botts etc but have also had some Breeches from Aldi which a saddler friend thought were Kentucky ones!

The way it works with Lidl is that they buy up stock in bulk from clearance sales, companies that are going under etc, so the stuff they have is usually reasonably good brands, but sometimes the brand names are taken off. That's why you get specials on horsey stuff, electrical items, gardening tools or whatever every now and then.

There is no reason whatsoever to worry about the quality, as a lot of the stuff will be exactly the same as sold by 'proper' saddleries, just sometimes in different packaging.

I have not seen a Lidl or Aldi horsey sale since Tesco Extra started selling the same 2 years ago. I think they have withdrawn from the market...

I think Lidl is pretty good all round, I lived in Germany and the products you find (and some may think are second grade) are good quality brands in Germany. I've bought the odd horsey odds and sods from them and have had no problems at all. I think that those who won't buy from them are being somewhat snobbish because they aren't a top end shop.

Never, I always try to support my local tack shop who are always going out of their way to help me. Any way if I were to ask some young assistant for some sheath wipes she'd probably scream, call security then faint when I explain what they're for. Support those understand your requirements and who always stock what you want.

I have bought chaps from Aldi and they are brilliant - hard-wearing, easy to clean, they fit well and are comfy. Fairly certain they were only £6 a pair too.

I have also bought leather-look gloves from Aldi which were again, extremely good value for money and lasted ages.

Yup, I also had the travel boots, they have a lovely waffle lining, mine are nearly 4 years old and came out the washing machine yesterday looking like new, no scuffs around the bottom, cover everything required, well padded, fit my welsh D fab.

Oh and several whips that are still going. .

A lot of the rugs etc were too big though.

don't know why anyone is saying no??!!

I bought a fleece a couple of years ago but it had a really weird elastic surcingle that went under the rug and it slipped all over the place, so it went in the cupboard and only came out a few weeks ago when I thought I would re-use the material to make a dog bed. Well I then reconsidered and thought I would sew proper surcingles on it, so this I did.

Put it on horsey and it was awful, she really sweated up in it, the sweat came through the fleece and sat in a mist over it. I've never had a fleece do that before.

It might become a dog bed after all!

i have bought hoof stuff (not used any of it yet) some fab black buckets, headcollars (fab), leadropes and wait for it a riding hat! Any before i get jumped on - it does meet the same safety standards for that type of helmet - i compared the standards against the ones for sale in Derby House!

Have the fleece rugs - best wicking rug I've ever bought

put them on a sweaty horse - go out 20 mins later, horse all dry and sweat wicked through to outside of rug.

Personally found the gloves not good - didn't last very long at all (though am comparing to Roeckl)

Yes, all the time. Toffee is addicted to the banan treats! Their saddle cloths are a perfect fit, although you do have to watch the rugs as they are measured along the back, not along the body, so are always vast!

No - nor TESCO!!! only go to proper horse shops.
TESCo is going to take over the world!!!!!!!!!!!!
(well i might buy the odd horse treat of hay net if desperate!!) but anything 'specialist- like rugs, hats etc, then no way!

I was talking about proper saddlery shops. The ones that specialise in horse stuff and nothing else. The ones that if youre running late you can ring and they'll hold on for ten minutes for you. If you need something they havnt got they will order it for you, etc, etc They usually have something called customer service as well. Maybe im old fashioned?
