I know a mature pony in its teens at my daughters PC which is blind in one eye & this doesn't effect him one bit. The seller of this 7yr old says the same. Not worried about hacking but daughter will grow into him & will want to hunt, SJ & xc etc Thoughts please.

I had a gorgeous boy who had 1 eye from day i got him,did PC with him did bit of xc,hacked him out you name it.
I sold him to local riding school and he is still there and is the most popular horse there they all book him for camp and take him off to do xc on.

And thats not bad for his age now either.

Sunny had his eye removed 3 years ago at the age of 19 ish and is absolutely fine. Can pretty much do anything. The only thing I would caution - constant terror of mine! - is that with only 1 eye left, you no longer have a "spare". It's one thing if a much loved ned loses an eye, but a little different to actually choose a horse with one eye.

M only has one eye - she lost hers as a 8yr old (i think - it was while ago!) she has done RC activites, team chased, hunted, evented basically everything and anything. she is a total super star. I often feel guilty because i totally forget she only has one!

the only time it ever effects her is when it is a really sunny day, cold day, she finds it hard to see ground lines on jumps.

No. If I had a horse who lost an eye, or the sight in one eye, I wouldn't get rid of it, but I wouldn't set out to buy a horse with only one eye - not with what your daughter wants to do, and not with a relatively young horse, and certainly not for a young person.

I agree with Sooty. I'd not buy one with one eye unless it was very cheap. Any minor problem with the remaining eye could be the end of the road. If I had one lose an eye in my ownership I'd keep them but not take on the risk on a new one.

I have known horses cope perfectly well with one eye and compete will like it. However when it comes to buying one i'd be looking into what caused the blindness/removal of said eye. I would also investigate about insuring said horse. Other than that if horse was right for job and price was right then i would def consider.
