would you buy.......... number plate

i hated them with a passion, then my oh decided to get one for our business pick up. Its v4 then the initials of the business, having had the business 8 years i had never noticed that the initials were the same as my dads, who died 5 years ago...so now im a convert, i love the plate for my own reasons and i expect other people are the same. I would definately get my horses name...its a wee bit eccentric, but thats not a problem to me!

If it were a few hundred quid, then I would probably get it. But to me £1500 seems like a lot of money to me for a just a number plate!

Here in NZ we have serious personalised number plates, you can apply and get your desired plate so long as it conforms to regulations - go for it have something special of your horse. You don't always have to have it on a vehicle either, it could be mounted on the wall along with photos.

Similar in Canada, costs about $350. So many people have them, quite amusing just trying to decipher some of them. Seen recently a "4PIGGYS" and a yellow corvette with "WHOOSH"

Decorative plates are normal too.

My OH and I do have personalised plates for our cars and am I currently waiting to get mine transferred onto my new vehicle, which is a bit of a pain TBH. They really are a matter of taste, but a lot of people these days (round here anyway) do take the p$%£ a bit with how they're laid out on the actual plate, making them technically illegal. If you can afford it and it works for you, then go for it.

Remember the rules though .... we nearly fell foul of the DVLA rule which says (I think) that you can't make a car appear "newer" than it is by replacing the plate. We only realised when they rejected our transfer request on these grounds. Luckily, we were able to dispose of the plate without loss, so no harm done, but worth remembering.

Good point ^^

Also, with my law head on, don't be tempted to get them in a stupid font or a font that is 'unreadable' by ANPR. You might get away with it for a bit but you'll be pulled over eventually (I loved a good traffic offence and my husband does too 😈 Lol). Get them made up in a nice law-complying size and font.

hahah I just replied and it clearly didn't send

It defo wont make my car newer, as its an A reg from the very first time around! as it is, the format would still make it look like her name! and would defo make sure it was a legal one!! I've gone 16 years without being pulled over by the police, wouldn't want to start that now hehe!

My friends have PON1EZ as their number plate on their horse truck and PETZ1 on their work vehicle (they own a pet shop) Its fun to have.

My brother in the USA used to have GDAY M8. Always made me chuckle!

I saw a great plate that spelt "dressage" advertised a while ago. The lady was selling it for £10,000. Crazy amount of money for a numberplate!

The 'unreadable' thing is a myth, according to one of OH's clients, who writes number plate recognition software, they can read whatever font.

It's an automatic MOT fail though if the font isn't legal.

If you want it and can afford it, buy it. The issue I have with private plates is half the time I cant make out what they are supposed to say! I guess as long as it means something to the person driving around with it, then thats what counts.

I have a number plate in the name of my horse of a life time. I bought it with money left to me when my mum died, it wasn't expensive,. I tdoesnt mean much to other people but it does to me
Her name was Tikka....... The chestnut to the left!!

Ha ha I know the instructor and plate. The crazy thing is that the plate is worth more than the mini she is driving...

They are an investment too and only go up in value,

on car: 1
Mine has gone up from £ 350 - £ 700

Car 2 : it £ 2200 is a suffix plate so lord knows how much it has gone up

Horse box: was £ 650 and is on retention for when I sell my box and buy a new one

car 3: was around £ 350 not had an up to date valuation yet

car 4: old plate black one and not been valued.

I can afford mine and my horses have everything so I choose have personalized ones.

Go for it OP you wont loose money it will only go up

Oh good I'll go and buy several.......I'm guessing you're FSA authorised :)

Answer to OP - fun idea but only if it's fun money. I wouldn't be spending a bonus on one. But I'm mean.

Can't help you OP, it's up to you. But many years ago I had an old Fiesta with the number plate F645 UCR To this day I wish I'd kept that plate, it was brilliant !!!
