iv been looking for months for a quiet pony for my 5 year old little boy. iv found this 12h stunning show hunter type grey welsh x but has no breeding on passport she 6 years and had a foal very guiet won local lead rein. BUT what about the passport as for county she would have to be a regestered part bred wouldnt she and also mum want to do inhand classes.

If she is 6 and had a foal, she probably hasn't done much ridden work. I personally would want something a little older for a 5 year old. :)

I'm not entirly shore but I don't think they need to be registered pertbred to do show hunter classes. I don't think you need to have there breeding you just register the pony with the NPS with breeding unknown. I could be wrong though (someone please correct me if I am :o) I'd maybe give the NPS a call and find out.
As for the age I just sold a 5yr old sec A who was a dream. Bought him as an unhandled 4yr old broke him in myself and he was ridden by a 5yr old out hacking off the lead rein. Hunted on and off the leadrein and always handled by kids. I sold him to a woman with a small child. He was such a fantastic pony and you would never guess he was only 5 yrs old I've known 15yr old ponies I wouldn't trust with a 5yr old child. It all just depends on the temprament.

I was just sitting here thinking that some older ponies can be pains! If it is quiet then use your own judgement.

:)

she would only need breed papers if you were going to do mountain and moorland classes and even those at local level can be entered if your pony is true to type. She can do lead rein pony right up to and including county level, she can also do lead rein show hunter pony classes. Of course she can do all of these off lead rein as well the only restrictions you will have are the mountain and moorland classes.
I would most definitly have her, if she is quite and what you are looking for there is no issue for me on age. And if she hasnt been pulled around and spoilt then surely thats a bonus.
Good luck :)

Sorry add on to my previous post, why would you want to register her with the NPS? Surely thats money you dont need to spend. I have shown my ponies over the years with my children at shows like the Royal Bath and west etc and have never had them registered with the NPS. You can enter NPS qualifiers yes I agree but I certainly wouldnt be thinking of doing that at this stage and even hOYS qualifiers you dont need to be a member of the NPS.

i have never had to show a passport to prove breeding at any local shows, ridden, in hand or of breed type.
also have a friend who shows her TB as a PBA as TB's dont have many showing classes near us.
as long as you;re staying local i dont think you will have a problem about proving breeding
as for the pony, if she's proven to be good on lead rein i dont see a problem but there may be one when it comes to removing the lead later on. many of ponies on lead are being sold because they arent suitable off the lead as their child has progressed

Thanks for correcting me. I don't show ponies to a high level it's just all the people I know that do are members of the NPS. When I used to show a hunter I did so upto county level but we couldn't do HOYS Qualifiers as we had to be reg with SHGB (or whatever it was called)It was alot of money and we couldn't afford it :(. I just assumed showing ponies was the same

yes, they do need to be registered to do LR at county level, even some local level.

There's plenty of purebred or registered part breds around at the moment, safe as house for very little money (what with the market how it is) and I'd be looking at something with papers if county showing was my goal.

I've shown mine unregistered at RC level, but never found any classes above that.

Hi, I can confirm that you only need to be registered NPS if doing M&M classes, if you do SHP and RP classes at county level you register with BSPS usually and breeding doesn't matter for them.

I wouldn't worry about age, its the ponys temperament that matters, I always buy my childrens ponies unbroken or young. Have had nothing but problems with so called schoolmasters! Good luck

I used to have a TB that had such a dished face everyone thought he was PBA, should have shown him as one maybe lol!!
I also have a PBA that is 50% arab but doesn't look anything like an arab at all :)
