Hi all, a general question.

...A 16hh 6yo bay tb mare, quite nice looking but no show stopper. Good to hack in company (dunno about alone but expect would be fine) fine in open space works in an outline although green. Has jumped some smallish jumps and could jump higher. She's nervous on the ground and occasionally difficult to catch (takes about 5-10 minutes usually although harder if she's had a fright recently :rolleyes:). Not been raced or in training.

Not for novice handler, needs someone confident but not bullying as will not respond to bullying (becomes more nervous). Not been in work long so these issues (I expect/hope) will become less of an issue in the right hands.

If so, what would you pay? Sorry if anyone feels this is advertising, I am at a loss and don't want to put her at a silly price and have to fend off numpties!
 
Hmmm tricky, as you say small issues that could potentially be ironed out but as she's not done that much maybe 1200-1500 mark? Am I way out!? what were you thinking?
 
Can't help but think not more than about £400 -500 max. After all who would really want her? Not an experienced rider as most of us will have "been there and done that" in our teens and early riding years ( she small, nothing special to look at and no great talent as you say) She not for a novice either, so you would really have to work out your target market. Perhaps she would excel in in some so far untested area like Polo or Polocrosse, maybe you could check out people who produce these types.
I had a friend who used to buy up little unbroken TBs like her as brood mares to cross withg something more substantial, I would think theres not much market for them TBH. Sorry.......

Hi Storm, unfortunately she won't do for polocrosse or I'd keep her quirks and all. She's more of a RC allrounder type I think. Maybe I'm underselling her here, she's not necessarily untalented, she moves well and has a nice jump but as I don't have the facilities (ie a stable) to get her basics sorted I don't want to do too much ridden work with her. I'm happy to take her to things to get her "up to speed" but I doubt that it would add much to her as I think that was her initial problem, too little too late!

Caught between a rock and a hard place, I don't want to advertise her under £1000 as I don't want her to end up in a downward spiral of sales and scummy dealers nor do I want to put off people looking for a project. I haven't done "project horses" yet as I'm not convinced of that site....
 
Don't be put off of Project Horses. I know several people who have bought or sold from there. It's the one place where you can advertise your horse honestly and everyone knows where they stand.

It also attracts the kind of people who will spend the time dealing with groundwork first so could be a good place. Although I appreciate you have to be careful you don't get dealers looking for cheap prices hunting on there as well I suppose.
 
I think plenty of people would like a nice project horse like this.

Put her at around £1000 and be exact when explaining her quirks, it may take a little longer than an the average horse but I can't see her not selling :)
 
She sounds like just the kind of thing I'd buy if I was looking! I can't be the only person who likes taking on a project. £1,000 sounds about right to me. There'll be someone out there for her :-)
 
She's still young and in the right hands seems like she could make a nice riding horse for someone in a few years so i'd go a little over £1000 and be open to offers.

I love silly tb's and i'd probably pay quite a lot for one even if it's a bit of a project, i'm a bit odd though

Just make sure you find the right person so that you feel comfortable

Wow! Definately not selling her for £400.... I'd rather keep her as a field ornament. I paid a little too much for her (felt sorry for her- schoolboy error) initially, spend hundreds on posh feed and haylage for her as she was skin and bone, did her vaccination course, wormed, worm counted, stitch up leg as charged through barbed wire (ouch), trimmed feet, emergency call out after hours due to acute 9/10 lameness (Why do I NEVER think of abcsesses even though that's always what it is??). Must have spent what I paid for her again on her!

Not that it's her fault of course and I don't begrudge a penny of it but there is no way I'm selling her to someone who can only afford £500 for a horse. Sorry that sounds mean, what I'm trying to say is that I'd prefer to advertise her for more and then drop the price once I have found "the one" as I don't want someone looking at her as "a cheap horse". D'you get me?

Exactly what I was going to say, only difference is I am looking... ;-) ...
