I've been looking for a horse for a while now and not had much luck. However I went to see one at the weekend which was a bit of a 'wild card', only £1800, 16.2, 13yrs. The girl selling him said he'd been back in work for a year after 4 or 5 years off due to the previous owner having a relationship breakdown. I don't think he has ever had his mane pulled and he has a big thick winter coat so he looks a bit like a huge Highland pony! He is extremely unbalanced and will need reschooling but he seems like a nice person and I am sure I could give him a nice life and I think I'd enjoy the challenge of transforming him. I've only mentioned it to a few people and the reaction has been luke warm to say the least. I know he's not as well bred as Buster (my last horse) was but I'm a lot older than when I bought Buster and I'm not interested in competing other than the occasion local show, some hacking etc. But people have been saying they would worry about why he is so cheap, why he had 4 years off etc, etc. I know most people (at least that I know) pay quite a lot for their horses and they are very well bred and, as I say, this was a wild card one I was going to try.
What do people think? Does it sound alright to you or would you also have doubts like my friends?
Thanks
Ben
