Basically friend has got a new farrier locally who charges £30 for fronts and trims on the back we pay £45 for fronts and trims.

We are not changing because our Farrier is fantastic but would price ever make you change ?

I used to have two different farriers ('my' farrier and one for the horse I look after) and both did a fantastic job and are really conscientious. Only difference is, one charges £80 for a full set and the other £66. I think the price gap is down to experience as one has been qualified much longer. Anyway, when I got my new horse after 3 months of not using 'my' farrier I ended up switching to the cheaper option as it was coming out of my pocket not previous pony's owners! BUT I probably wouldn't have changed if I hadn't already seen plenty of the other farrier's work.

Personally I am happy with my farrier and would not change.

If I were to change farriers I woud be looking into their work and recomendations.

I had to get a different farrier out to my boy at short notice (mine is usually great but was away for the weekend) and new farrier hadn't supported hind hooves properly, he has funny conformation and is very upright in the hinds so needs greater support.

Absolutely not. i have used my farrier for years and trust him. He charges £45 for fronts and a trim and when he broke his wrist I did have another one do mine who was cheaper, that was just once mind you and am very happy with my own . Its a bit like vets , once you trust them you stick with them

That's it we debated it but our farrier knows our horse and her needs very well and trust him :)

No, never.

Another livery asked me recently how much my farrier charges and she thought it expensive compared to hers (I pay £80 per set, I think that she pays £60), but I am *more* than pleased with the exceptional standard of shoeing and care that my farrier provides, and am happy to pay for that expertise and reliability :)
