Would you do a sponsored ride on your own?

i haven't been on one for years but if i remember correctly they ask for a minimum of pairs they don't tend to like solo riders , although if this is the case you could always go along and ask a group if you could tag on ( i'm sure someone will correct me if i'm wrong)

I've never come across this.

Yes, why not (unless horse not good hacking on its own). Also if you want company there are usually loads of friendly people who wouldnt mind you tagging along with them if asked. You could always ask the organiser/secretary if they know anyone who would ride with you.

i stand corrected , sorry don't know where it came from possibly because it was with my young daughter and they have to be accompanied and now old age has addled my brain .

Go for it!!! You could always ring/e-mail the person organising the ride prior to the event and say that you'll be on your own and they may organise a "buddy" for you.

Though personally I'd much prefer to go solo (OK so am an anti-social git ;)) that way you can choose the pace you go and haven't go to go either the slowest pace coz someone in the group will sh@t themselves if you go anything beyond a forward walk, OR have to hoon around at someone else's pace and your horse gets back all hot and sticky and you've got to deal with it.

Go solo - and enjoy. You'll probably come across a little group and/or someone else in a similar situation and you could tag along with them.

Definitely! You're not normally out of sight of riders in front of or behind you for very long. We've had solo riders ask to tag along with us before, and OH paired up with another solo male rider on one ride - I quite enjoy chatting to strangers :D

Always used to go with a friend but did first one on own last year ! it was brilliant - so chuffed he was well behaved and zoomed round thinking he was the dogs whatnots ! said hello to people as I passed so not lonely but then again we hack alot on our own - although if anyone is up for any rides around Somerst let me know !

Just remember to leave him in the trailer/lorry until you have signed in/got your number etc

I would... Don't think I ever have, but I've trec-ed alone which isn't much different. If there are rides I want to take the daft highland on this year when nobody else is around, I will take him regardless (though I may have a crisis of faith the night before!).

Enjoy :D

I went to last year's Burghley Sponsored ride alone. They did pair me up with a couple of lovely ladies, but from about half way around we did it on our own. Since I always hack alone it didn't make any difference to me, so just go for it.

Years ago I would never have thought twice about doing anything on my own....probably because health and safety wasn't so 'rampant' and lots of my peers were doing similar things, so plenty of people to look out for me.

Nowadays....more in my dotage....I seem to be the only one wanting to do things; if I didn't do things on my own then I wouldn't do ANYTHING. Sooo...I joined BEIDS, make sure I have tabs on my saddle and wrist re BEIDS so people can get contact details for me/ned should the need arise and GO FOR IT!

Life is too short! Enjoy!

I would, I am not sure Harvey would though!

There is a fairly local one (he wont box) that i usually hack to with soemone else but if i went on my own getting there could be interesting. Am also not sure I'd get over any of the jumps as he likes a lead over unfamiliar jumps.

However 2/3 times ive done it we seemed to end up going around in a group with others anyway so Im sure there'd be someone there to "tag along with!"

Yep I do them on my own quite often as it's not always possible to find a friend with a sensible horse who's available on that day. Always meet up with someone at some point on the ride.
