I'm hoping to do BE next year on my 15.1hh cob . He's got a lot of potential ( as you can see from my pics ) . Personally would you do BE on a cob ?

Yes! Ay a recent BE event, the horse that one a section was an absolute stormer of a cob, me and my sister say him thudering XC and he looked awesome. Then found out he had a dressage of 24!!!

Al would have affiliated her little cob back in the day, but she was too young before she outgrew him and he was too small (you had to be 14 to affiliate back then, and your pony 142cm- Al was 12 and her pony was just too small). He had knee high feathers and was wider than he was tall, yet they pinged round unaff. 1.10m ODEs.

Yes, definitely.

Go for it. There are lots of cobs/cobby types out there doing BE at the lower levels.

Good luck, i'm sure that you'll have lots of fun.

yes many people do i have no idea why anyone would think you would not.

we have a 7yr old cob at work she does affiliated dressage, show jumping and events at 110cm. there are lots of cobs in all disciplines

I know of lots of cobs that BE:D As long as they arent too heavily built and struggling then why the heck not?

My RI tells me I will be doing BE80 by the end of the year with my Sec D, lol, Im not so sure:o

There's a 20yr old chestnut cob on our yard who does be (on his way to badminton grass roots champs today which will be his last ever eventing outing) who is awesome at it! Almost always leads the dressage and always in the ribbons if he doesn't win. Go for it!

Yes of course, at the lower levels. Some cobs are exceptionally good jumpers. f you have a good jumper, why not, have fun.

But (in the old days when it was Novice, Intermediate and Advanced) I used to see some cobs trying Novice courses and lacking the scope to get the spreads and they also couldn't go fast enough.

Of course, someone is now going to say that they had a cob doing Advanced! There is always going to be the occasional talented one-off horse that breaks the rules!

Defiantely would, some cobs are amazing jumpers!

You may have to work a little more on the fitness/stamina at home than say a TB or TBx.

But they can go competing in any discpline with the best of the rest :)

Yes if it's a horse you already have and enjoy and have fun on. Would I go out and buy a cob with the aim of doing be on it... No.

Lol yeah I'm going to say I know a cob that's done badders! Olivia Wilmot's wee patris filius a 15.1hh on his tip toes gypsy cob! One in a million but def why not on the right horse ;)

Would rather do it on a big bold cob with scope than a 'event type' without. Total biased view here though #cobloverno1 ;)

Just had a quick look at the pictures... doesnt look overly cobby... ie not one with loads of bone and hair.

Yes, but I'd just be aware that he is likely to need more fitness work that a horse with more blood, my connie does too.

No reason not to if it is capable of the job. This is my cobby lad in action BE, huge jump and easily made the time PN and regularly in the top 6. Didnt get a chance to run him Nov but had schooled over Nov/Int fences with relative ease

As others have said, you do need to do more fittening work with them than one with more tb but it is totally possible.

Yep - as soon as daughter hit 14 and was accredited she did BE with her 14.2 seriously cobby cob. She only did Intro (90) as he struggled a bit with the time at PN despite being extremely fit.

He did the PC open course at the old Stilemans (see photo) which included some of the novice XC fences and pinged around them. He's still doing RC opens with his new owner at the age of 18. Wish we'd never sold him as would do me just fine in my dotage :)

and this was when she was 11 at some PC show (bigger than you'd find at lower BE levels)

Of course!!!
Cobs can have a lot of power, and they are a lot more surefooted than a lot of the thoroughbreds!!
I know loads of people who do BE, very successfully, on cobs
Get out there and prove all the others wrong - cobs are as good as any other horse!!
Have fun!! :)
